John 1:39-41
39 Jesus said, `Come and see.’ They went and saw the place where Jesus was staying. The time was about four o’clock in the afternoon. They stayed with Jesus the rest of the day.
40 Andrew was one of those two followers of John who heard John speak and went after Jesus. He was Simon Peter’s brother.
41 The first thing Andrew did then was to find his brother Simon. He said, `We have found the Messiah!’ (Messiah means the Christ, the messenger of God.)
We all know that with the advent of streaming video we have a plethora of shows that we can watch now at our convenience and it is marvelous. Instead of waiting to watch your favorite show at 9 pm on Tuesday, you can now watch them anytime sitting on your couch in your bunny slippers day or night. With COVID forcing most people last year to stay inside a bit more than they wanted to, finding good shows was a critical release for those of us wanting to pass the time.
Thank the Lord that during this time I found a show about the life of Jesus Christ and His Apostles called “The Chosen” and it is one of the best things I have ever watched.
Ever.
In the history of my limited time in the world.
The concept is incredibly simple but altogether unique. There have been endless stories done on T.V. and in movies about Jesus and His time walking the big blue marble we call Earth but those all dealt with the stories from the Bible in a compressed time frame. You can do a story about certain passages from scripture in 2, 3, or 5 hours but you can’t put all that happened in between those famous events that have been told numerous times. While the Bible does not go into all the in-between of every minute or every week for that matter, what were Christ and His followers doing before and after the accounts of his words and miracles being performed?
This is where the show fills in the gaps and it is by far the most intriguing portrayal of the names and people from the best-selling book of all time. (They just launched Season 2 on Easter Sunday of last week which was amazing)
The creator of this enterprise is a gentleman by the name of Dallas Jenkins who envisioned doing a multi-season show about Jesus and telling a story about the happenings surrounding these historically recorded events.
That, in and of itself, would be a daunting task, but the other amazing part of this is that “The Chosen” is now the largest crowd-funded project in history and is being paid for by people that are just in love with this show and I happen to be one of those people. Dallas and his team have advocated that the show be free to watch but that if you can Pay It Forward to please do so and it has provided stunning results. They raised enough money last year to fully fund Season 2 and are on their way to funding Season 3 right now, all from donations.
I just can’t rave enough about how the stories told here of the miracle of Peter catching the fish or of Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman at the well, are incredibly done and bring these stories to life in a way that makes sense. They have made me go back to read these famous passages in The Bible and see them with brand new eyes and to contemplate with new vigor what Christ and these followers of His went through 2,000 years ago. Even if you are not a CHRISTian you will have a better understanding of who Jesus of Nazareth was and why He has the following He still does thousands of years later.
I can’t thank the Lord enough for having this whole team bring this to a world that is so broken and seems to be shattering more each day. This show is truly a light in a very long and dark tunnel and it is a blessing no longer in disguise but becoming better known each and every day.
I highly encourage you to right now go to The Chosen right now and download the Chosen app for your phone or tablet, being that will be the only way you can watch future episodes. The app and watching the show are FREE and if you feel it is worth donating after watching it you can Pay It Forward like thousands of others already have. I and hundreds of thousands of others can’t rave enough about this show and if you watch it I have a feeling you will know why.
This is truly a “God Thing” and it is needed more now than ever.
