Arlington National Cemetery Increases Security After Iraq Bombing

Here we go…

In the aftermath of the United States bombing targets in Iraq which has been covered here extensively at Red State – here is one of those articles Israeli Leaders Praise Trump for Soleimani’s Death, Netanyahu Assures Israel’s Support  – we are beginning to see some of the “ramping up” for a response.

As I was surfing the interwebs I came across this post from the Facebook feed of Arlington National Cemetery and was surprised.

The message begins with “Due to current conditions” and rolls on from there explaining that you will now need a valid I.D. to enter the grounds. Below is a screenshot of the post.

Terrorists can’t beat us on a traditional battlefield so they have to use other weapons and psychological ones are quite effective. What better way to both tick off and scare people than floating some threats to national landmarks.

Including a national cemetery.

Now, to be clear, we are in the very early stages of the aftermath of this attack and no “credible” threat has been found. The Washington Examiner covers that here…

Neither the Iranians nor the U.S. government have specified what locations the country could target or whether they would be on U.S. soil.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei promised “severe revenge” for his top general’s death. Soleimani, 62, was killed in Baghdad on Thursday night in a drone strike.

Chad Wolf, the acting Homeland Security secretary, said Friday he is so far not aware of any “specific” or “credible” threats on U.S. soil.

Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser also said there are “no immediate” threats to the city.

That one of this nation’s truly solemn landmarks and memorial sites has to issue this as a preventive measure means most likely some have a valid concern. I’m guessing that this has popped up on someone’s radar before and was flagged if an event like this happened. Well, that event has now happened and we have to now show our i.d. at someplace I would have never imagined.

Arlington National Cemetery.

Yet I fully understand why this is.

The world we live in is a hot mess and it seems to be getting hotter (no climate change joke intended – really) with each passing day. Yet, when the world stage allows individuals to thrive who will kill you over the music you listen to or the religion you may not share, this is what you get. Responding to force with force and then asking for identification to access gravesites.

May God have mercy on those souls who have passed and those who just wish to visit them in peace.
