One more potential Presidential hopeful officially bites the dust and America wonders wistfully when this car wreck of a Democratic primary will finally end.
As my colleague, Sister Toldjah has covered here earlier today about the fall of Sen. Harris… It’s Official: Kamala Harris Calls it Quits (Updated With Video) I also watched this campaign closely and have some thoughts on her exit.
You see, once upon a time the junior Senator from California was considered a “Top Tier” candidate that possibly was the heir apparent to President Obama. In fact, Laura Ingraham actually wrote an article over at Fox News discussing this rumor Ingraham: Is Team Obama behind Harris’ surge? back in July.
How fast things can change.
Zip forward to today’s announcement of Sen. Harris’s campaign crashing and burning and I started to think about how this had happened so quickly. Having watched this campaign closely along with some of the others, I think I can pinpoint when her ship began to sink.
The date was July 31st and the site of the damage being done was in my hometown of Detroit.
The person who did it was Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.
Now I understand that there are some who will add or detract to some things that possibly also could be responsible and there are many pieces to this puzzle. However, Gabbard was the one who vocalized where Kamala Harris Achilles tendon was and she hit it dead on. When Tulis was given the chance to strike at Kamala about her job as California Attorney General, she hit a home run.
According to Real Clear Politics here was the shot…
GABBARD: I want to bring the conversation back to the broken criminal justice system that is disproportionately negatively impacting black and brown people all across this country today. Now Senator Harris says she’s proud of her record as a prosecutor and that she’ll be a prosecutor president.
But I’m deeply concerned about this record. There are too many examples to cite but she put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana.
She blocked evidence — she blocked evidence that would have freed an innocent man from death row until the courts forced her to do so. She kept people in prison beyond their sentences to use them as cheap labor for the state of California.
She thought it was funny that she prosecuted people for smoking dope. Kinda harsh.
When Sen. Harris had the chance to clear this up AFTER the debate with Anderson Cooper her response was so ill-advised that she should have just quit right there. Once again to RCP…
SEN. KAMALA HARRIS: Well, I mean, listen, I — this is going to sound immodest, but I’m obviously a top-tier candidate, and so I did expect that I would be on the stage and take hits tonight because there are a lot of people that are trying to make the stage for the next debate.
COOPER: for a lot of them it’s do or die.
HARRIS: Especially when some people are at zero or 1%, whatever she might be at. So I did expect that I might take hits tonight. But, you know, listen, this coming from someone who has been an apologist for an individual, Assad, who has murdered the people of his, you know, of his country like cockroaches. She who has embraced and been an apologist in a way to refuse to call him a war criminal. I can only take what she says and her opinion so seriously. So, you know, I’m prepared to move on.
Say what? You expected you might take some shots about your record as A.G. and your response is to say that the torpedo that hit you was only polling at 1%? How can you say that about another woman?
In politics, facts matter but presentation matters MORE. If you knew that criminal justice reform is going to be a topic you better be prepared to discuss your record as the top cop in Cali. The guy you ultimately want to run against is meeting with Kim Kardashian and getting people sentences commuted or pardoned.
“Top Tier” candidate my #$%.
Now in all fairness, Tusli Gabbard and her campaign have not caught fire at all but in this one debate, she came prepared to sink the campaign battleship of Kamala Harris. The campaign listed on its side for a while and sink it eventually did.
Now Sen. Harris gets to go back to her day job in the Senate and hope she does not have nightmares of that other democrat from Hawaii who on one night in Detroit blew up her Presidential dreams.
Next time, come prepared.
