Oh, CNN, please don’t ever change.
The diminutive former Clinton whiz kid, Paul Begala, got himself into a bit of trouble on CNN the other day when, during a discussion about Trump administration officials, he compared Donald Trump’s daughter and son-in-law to cockroaches.
That was a bridge a bit too far for Jake Tapper even. According to Fox News…
Jake Tapper was forced to check CNN political analyst Paul Begala on Tuesday after he referred to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner as “cockroaches.”
During a discussion about the new book, “Kushner, Inc.,” Tapper and his panel discussed whether or not President Trump would ever kick his daughter and son-in-law to the curb and questioned how the couple has kept their gig while the White House faces frequent turnover.
“Of course they survived. I mean, cockroaches are going to survive a nuclear war,” Begala said.
The panel’s token Trump supporter, Dave Urban, shook his head in disgust upon hearing the derogatory remark.
Tapper quickly asked, “You’re not calling Ivanka and Jared cockroaches?”
The CNN commentator said, “No, no I’m talking about a separate class of species.”
If by “a separate class of species” he means his former bunkmate at the White House, James Carville, he is way off. Nothing looks, sounds, or smells like Carville. That is part of his charm.
Calling a couple who look like they belong on a cover of Vanity Fair and who also happen to be related to the current President of the United States is even a bit far for this hack. Begala has been living off his 1992 work on the Clinton campaign since that ended. He has been at CNN for years and has added absolutely zero useful insight other than throwing a barb on occasion like this one.
He is the Democrats’ version of Ed Rollins you could say.
No word from CNN if he will be asked nicely to apologize for this crack. Of course, CNN won’t force him to do that being they probably all high fived him after he said it.
