Nike Tells Colin Kaepernick to "Just Do It"

Don’t Do It

Well, let’s see how Nike fares against the Trump curse.

Just in time for the NFL kickoff this Thursday, Nike decided to pull off a fabulous publicity stunt and use professional lightning rod Colin Kaepernick as it’s spokesperson for the “Just Do It” 30th campaign.

According to Bleacher Report

Nike selected former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick as the face of its “Just Do It” campaign, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Darren Rovell of ESPN reported the choice of Kaepernick, who started the movement to kneel during the United States national anthem to protest racial injustice in August 2016.

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports later reported that Kaepernick and Nike agreed to a new contract despite Kaepernick’s being with the company since 2011. Robinson added that “interest from other shoe companies” played a part in the new agreement.

The N.F.L. has taken a big hit in ratings due to the controversy that Kaepernick kicked off and President Trump’s response to it. Now with the season just days away from starting and a new rule from the league about not kneeling during the anthem, Nike is doubling down on selling more shoes with Colin in the lead.

Will it pay off?
