It used to be that the U.K. was always slightly ahead of the U.S. on matters of great cultural importance. The Beatles. Mary Quant's mini skirts. Punk rock. Margaret Thatcher.
These days, however, it seems like the only way they're lapping us is on the pace of societal decay. Open borders. Rape gangs. Two-tier policing. Keir Starmer.
And, now, a story that isn't being talked about enough: the horrific murder of Ann Widdecombe, a 78-year-old Christian conservative politician who served as a Reform Party spokesperson at the time of her death. Widdecombe was bludgeoned to death in her kitchen on July 8 as she ate her lunch and prepared for a media appearance.
The details are gruesome.

U.K. police at first downplayed any political motivation for Widdecombe's death, although it seemed a pretty obvious conclusion once they confirmed she had been murdered. Then they arrested Joshua Kerry, 28, at his home 300 miles away from Widdecombe's house, and the pieces started to fall into place.

At his first court hearing today in London, Joshua Kerry, the man accused of m—rdering conservative figure and Reform immigration spokesperson Ann Widdecombe, was denied release. The prosecution told the judge that Widdecombe, 78, was repeatedly bashed on the head with a hammer.
Police initially focused on the wanted suspect being white and dismissed the concern that the killing could be politically motivated. Their initial arrest was of the wrong man and he was released.
Many leftists have been celebrating Widdecombe’s killing because she was an outspoken Christian conservative.
Sure, you can't always judge a book by its cover, but, c'mon, this guy is straight out of central casting if you're making a movie about white guilt, communism, violence, and Godlessness.
The fearless Andy Ngo has been following the breadcrumbs on this Joshua Kerry guy and, sadly, it's all too predictable. Although Kerry has not yet been tied directly to any specific group, there are plenty of options for weak-minded, disaffected young men like him to learn political violence.

And, of course, we have plenty of our own Joshua Kerrys right here in the U.S. They assassinated Charlie Kirk last year and the CEO of UnitedHealthcare the year before. They swatted Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett this summer, and one of them is currently sitting in prison for trying to assassinate Barrett's colleague, Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Ngo does a brilliant job explaining what's going on: "Leftists celebrating deadly political violence is an important part of their machine. It socially validates those who have already taken direct action and encourages others who may be prone to violence to take the next step."

What more of us have to learn here in the U.S. is that they want us dead, they're willing to die to make that happen, and no one is safe. Sure, the murders of the Charlie Kirks and Ann Widdecombes of the political world get them plenty of the attention they crave, but they'll get to you, me, and our families eventually if they're not stopped.
Poor Ann Widdecombe didn't stand a chance. She was elderly, vulnerable, isolated, and didn't have the 2nd Amendment to help protect her from a weak-willed young man who very likely allowed himself to be brainwashed into thinking murder is okay as long as the right person is being murdered.
That should be a warning to the rest of us. The people who fantasize about the destruction of Western civilization aren't always content to simply scream tired slogans, smash windows, or post revolutionary memes from their mom's basement. Some of them eventually pick up the hammer, the knife, or the gun.
And when a culture spends years excusing, romanticizing, or simply looking away from political violence because the "right" people are being targeted, this is where we end up: an elderly woman dead on her kitchen floor.
The U.K. may be a few steps ahead of us on this particular road to ruin, but we'd be complete fools to keep following.
