Here’s How Trump Brought Accountability to MN – and Torched Tim Walz’s Political Career in the Process

When Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) made the blockbuster announcement Monday that he would not be seeking reelection, he focused his ire squarely in one direction: at President Donald Trump. It was Trump, said Walz, who wanted to "make our state a colder, meaner place" by "attacking our neighbors."

By "neighbors," Kamala Harris's running mate, of course, means the Somali community to which the Democrat Party can't seem to pander enough. It's this very community that has brought the failures of Walz and his fellow Minnesota Democrats into sharp focus as the Trump administration takes action to uncover the extent of the fraud being committed in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

DEEP DIVE: It's Official – Tim Walz Won't Seek Reelection As His Political Career Goes Down in Flames

The Trump/Bondi DOJ Is Aggressively Pursuing Multiple Fraud Investigations in MN; Here Are the Details

And, to Walz's point, the administration is taking decisive and comprehensive action to, in the words of the White House, "crush Minnesota’s fraud epidemic." It all starts with the Department of Justice (DOJ), which is "engaged in multiple active, ongoing, and extensive investigations into the fraudulent activity that has occurred in various Minnesota programs, including the state’s Feeding Our Future, Housing Stabilization Services, Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention programs, and Evergreen Recovery."

There have been 98 defendants charged by the DOJ in fraud-related cases – the majority of those charged are from the Somali community – with 64 convictions already secured. Furthermore, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is currently investigating dozens of Minnesota's health care and home daycare providers who are accused of fraud, and who possibly have links to elected officials and terrorist financing.

These efforts by the DOJ and the FBI are just the beginning, with the Department of Homeland Security going door-to-door investigating suspected fraud sites and ramping up immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota. And the Department of Health and Human Services has frozen federal childcare payments to the state and is investigating its Head Start programs over allegations of fraud being committed by illegal aliens.

In addition, several other departments and agencies are taking action to ensure accountability:

  • The Small Business Administration has halted all annual grant program payments to Minnesota. The agency also suspended 6,900 borrowers in the state for approximately $400 million in suspected fraudulent activity — banning the individuals from all further loan programs, including disaster loans.
  • The Department of Housing and Urban Development has dispatched a team to Minnesota to conduct a wide-ranging investigation into possible public housing assistance fraud.
  • The Department of Labor is currently conducting a targeted review of Minnesota’s Unemployment Insurance program.
  • The Department of Agriculture has demanded Minnesota conduct recertification for its SNAP recipients to ensure the program complies with eligibility requirements — a commonsense move inexplicably challenged in court by state officials.

All of the federal attention being paid to his state, it seems, was simply too much for Tim Walz, who said Monday, “Donald Trump and his allies – in Washington, in St. Paul, and online – want to make our state a colder, meaner place. They want to poison our people against each other by attacking our neighbors. And, ultimately, they want to take away much of what makes Minnesota the best place in America to raise a family.”

Despite Tim Walz's efforts to frame this as a political hit on him and Minnesota, what's actually happening here is a Trump-sized dose of accountability, something that was long overdue. And Walz is bailing, hoping to quietly exit stage right instead of letting the voters decide his fate. It's clear the Trump administration has other plans.
