MedStar Washington Hospital Center issued an update on Steve Scalise’s condition today, and it wasn’t great news.

“Congressman Steve Scalise underwent surgery for the management of infection. He tolerated the procedure well. He remains in serious condition. We will provide updates as appropriate.”

The hospital had downgraded Scalise’s condition from “fair” to “serious” yesterday due to concerns over a possible infection; Scalise was also readmitted to the ICU prior to his surgery. As we reported yesterday, one of Scalise’s House colleagues, Phil Roe, had reported earlier in the week that Scalise was making great progress and was even able to get out of bed for periods of time.

We pray that this is minor setback for Congressman Scalise.
