Was Steve Bannon the Last to Know About Comey's Firing?

Well, maybe not the last … but definitely not amongst the first.

While his West Wing colleagues were huddled amongst the White House shrubbery game planning the official response to the firing of James Comey, Trump’s senior advisor, Steve Bannon, was apparently learning the news from T.V.

The AP is reporting today that Bannon “has been marginalized on major decisions, including Comey’s firing, after clashing with [Jared] Kushner.”

What does it all mean?

Several people close to the president say his reliance on a small cadre of advisers as he mulled firing Comey reflects his broader distrust of many of his own staffers. He leans heavily on daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner, as well as Hope Hicks, his trusted campaign spokeswoman and Keith Schiller, his longtime bodyguard.

Kushner has played an increasingly important role in the West Wing, taking on a large portfolio of issues to oversee, leading to apparently diminishing roles for advisors like Bannon and Chief of Staff Reince Priebus.

How long will Steve Bannon, who was accorded much acclaim for his role in getting Trump elected, accept being seated at the kids’ table?
