Steve Bannon on His "Fire and Fury" Quotes: I Don't Deny Anything

Oh, my!

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is over in Europe, attempting to export his particularly noxious brand of populism abroad.

While in France, Bannon sat for an interview and among other subjects, the controversial book, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” was mentioned.

Bannon saw a quick fall from MAGA grace, even losing his position with Breitbart News, after his comments from the book were made public.

There’s actually been a lot said about the validity of the claims within the book, so were the quotes attributed to Bannon accurate?

“The book has been authorized then I don’t deny anything from what is inside,” Bannon told the right-leaning French news outlet Valeurs Actuelles. A translation of the interview was published by BuzzFeed News.

“The book is what it is. The reader can judge what he reads,” he said, according to BuzzFeed.

Bannon had originally tried to backpedal and deny those quotes. Maybe he’s getting a bit of his starch back and he’s feeling vindictive.

He did say that when he called the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and several Russians “treasonous,” he wasn’t talking about Jr. He was talking about Paul Manafort’s involvement.

Nice try. Manafort wasn’t the one the Russians reached out to. He was just invited (along with Jared Kushner) to attend.

“I regret that my delay in responding to the inaccurate reporting regarding Don, Jr., has diverted attention from the president’s historical accomplishments in the first year of his presidency,” he said in a statement.

What didn’t he deny there?

The part about Donald Trump knowing about the meeting, ahead of time.

So is Bannon indulging in a bit of passive-aggressive payback against the administration that rejected him?

If he’s not denying anything now, however, what could he possibly have told Robert Mueller’s team that we don’t know about?
