I’m going to count Robert O’Neill as a “No” vote on Trump’s military parade.

After news of President Trump’s plans to have a military parade down Pennsylvania Avenue broke, the opinions have been pretty much split.

Just among Republicans, I’ve seen a near-equal amount of arguments both for and against.

Personally, I’m against the expense and waste that would be required to put on the kind of event Trump is reportedly considering. There’s no doubt in my mind that this is more for Trump’s ego than to honor the troops.

Plus, a showy parade that wastes the time of our troops will not honor them in any tangible way.

They and their families could use a raise in pay. They could use better benefits.

Homeless vets could use housing and mental health care.

Veterans hospitals could use upgrades.

There are so many ways to honor our troops. This is not it.

O’Neill is the former Navy SEAL who claims to have fired the fatal shots that took out Osama bin Laden.

On Thursday, he tweeted out his objection to the notion of a military parade, and it’s a doozy.

Well, that’s pretty well to the point.

He’s not alone in thinking what Trump wants smacks of the kind of desperate shows from megalomaniacs and leaders of third world dictatorships put on, in order to give the illusion of power to the world.

That’s not us, and it’s not required.

I’m with O’Neill.
