Chik-fil-A's New Family Option Sounds AWESOME

The Colonel just wet himself.

Families in Greensboro, North Carolina, Phoenix, Arizona, and San Antonio, Texas are about to get a dinner treat. Namely, Chik-fil-A is about to begin offering an experimental family meal pack in those areas, which will become a rival option to Kentucky Fried Chicken’s bucket meals.

Yes. If Greensboro was closer, I’d be there regularly.

The meals will start at $29.99 and are designed to feed a family of four. They will include an entrée, 2 sides, and 8 rolls.

Family-style entree options include 30 chicken nuggets, 12 chicken strips, or four chicken breasts either grilled or fried. Side options include bacon baked beans, a fruit bowl, mac and cheese, a salad, or the superfood side (kale and broccolini with dried cherries, nuts, and a maple vinaigrette dressing).

The beans are kettle-cooked and slightly sweet, flavored with bacon and brown sugar, and the mac and cheese is served with a blend of cheeses including cheddar, parmesan, and Romano.

This is what I’ve always found to be true, at every Chik-fil-A I’ve visited through the years: The service is always courteous and quick, even in the drive-thru. Matt Abercrombie, the chain’s menu development manager, says that none of that will change with the addition of these new options.

The company gathered together a group made up of parents and those who handle the meals for their families from the Dallas, Texas area, in order to pick their brains over dinner needs.

“We heard that for a lot of people who are in charge of planning dinner, it’s really not that enjoyable,” Abercrombie said. “Some parents said ‘I don’t even eat until after my family is fed.’ That was a really big ‘aha!’ for us.”

I’ve always loved the family-oriented vibe of Chik-fil-A, and they’re not just putting together a real family meal, here, but they’re also trying to get families to talk again.

On the outside of the packaging, there will be 5 “conversation starters.”

That’s certainly better than having everybody at the table staring at their phones.

The testing period in the three aforementioned cities will be until November 18, 2017. If it goes well and families respond, it will become an option at Chik-fil-A restaurants, nationwide.

I can’t imagine this not doing well.

Score another win for Chik-fil-A.

And us.
