So how bad was President Trump’s latest mindless blunder?

Trump’s defenders are lighting candles and have declared that by the very breath of his word, he makes all things permissible and good.

In the real world, however, the spilling of highly classified intelligence to adversarial players can have real consequences to consider.

Any other leader would realize the sensitive nature of the material, and more importantly, the impact it could have on our allies. In this case, we now know the allies are likely to be Israel.

It’s not like they aren’t plagued enough with people who want to kill them.

According to some officials, Trump’s need to boast may have threatened the life of an Israeli spy.

The spy, who was placed by Israel inside ISIS, provided intelligence on an active ISIS plot to bring down a passenger jet plane to the United States, ABC reported Tuesday.

According to the report, the plan was to hide a bomb inside a laptop that could get through airport screenings, and the information was reliable enough to lead the U.S. to consider a laptop ban on flights from Europe to the United States.

The spy reportedly offered that information at the request that the source remain confidential.

And then came Trump.

The news came in the middle of a scandal-rich day on Tuesday, where Trump was hit with everything from his willingness to hand out classified info as party favors, to potential memos kept by former FBI Director James Comey that suggest Trump asked him to drop the investigation of former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, and his involvement with Russia.

How bad was it?

GOP lawmakers threw their hands up and walked away from it last night, battle-worn and unwilling to defend him publicly.

Given the sycophantic wagon-circling we’ve seen over the past few months, that’s pretty bad.
