By now, you’ve seen all the buzz about the FBI’s reopening of Hillary Clinton’s email investigation.
The oddity of it all is that it became an issue, due to emails found while investigating Anthony Weiner’s latest sexting scandal.
Weiner is Clinton’s closest aide, Huma Abedin’s estranged husband – as well as a pretty twisted pervert, being investigated now because of sexting with a minor.
And as is with oddities, there is also quite a bit of hilarity.
The Democrats, who were patting FBI Director James Comey on the back after he announced in July that his agency would not be recommending charges be brought against Clinton, due to her mishandling of classified materials, are now calling for his head on a platter for announcing that a fresh investigation will begin, due to the emails found during the Weiner probe.
(There was no way to say that delicately.)
So as Hillary fumes, fumbles, and denies (a lifelong pattern, it seems) Republican lawmakers have to be enjoying a bit of belated satisfaction.
South Carolina Representative Trey Gowdy, a former prosecutor and sitting member of the House Judiciary Committee and House Oversight Committee has been on what seems to be a never-ending quest to find some scandal that would be too much for authorities to ignore, so that some measure of actual justice could be meted out against a Clinton.
In July, he went hard at Director Comey, and it was a thing of beauty.
With this new revelation and new investigation, Rep. Gowdy appeared in a segment of Megyn Kelly’s Fox News show, to talk about the latest.
“Secretary Clinton had an extraordinary email arrangement with herself. She is the author of her own destiny. Everything that’s happened since then has been a natural probable consequence of deciding you’re going to have a rogue email system. So I understand she’s upset, and I understand she doesn’t like the timing, but she need look no further than herself.”
“This is the same person who said I neither sent or received classified info. The same person who said she turned over all work related emails, only had one device, my lawyers went thru everything, that’s the same person that now wants all of this public disclosure. The same person who went to great lengths to make sure these emails were private, now all of a sudden wants it all made public. It’s just too rich,” the congressman said.
He’s right.
Hillary Clinton has been allowed to skate with scandals that during any other decade would have very likely not only ended her political career, but could have landed her in federal prison.
Representative Bob Goodlatte, of Virginia, also added:
“[Comey] had already taken the mantle of this problem on his shoulders when he announced back in July that he did not find evidence sufficient to prosecute her when many owe people, including many members of the Judiciary Committee thought when he held his news conference when he said she violated this, did this wrong and this wrong, a lot of us thought we were going to here therefore there’s going to be an indictment,” the congressman said.
“He said however, there’s not going to be an indictment. So now having taken this on and having new evidence and having been criticized for a number of aspects of how this has been handled, he has the responsibility of saying we have new evidence. I assume there’s some significance to it. I think this is probably more substantial and that is why he put it out now,” he added.
Director Comey does not come out of this redeemed, nor should we assume this will be the event to torpedo Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
Frankly, Democrats tend to hold the view that the ends justify the means. Not one shred from the mountain of scandals that is Hillary Clinton’s political life has swayed them before, because none of it has stopped her from being a female, for starters. Democrats will have their identity politics as a shield and battering ram.
They also want control, no matter the cost and a glaring lack of conscience that would lead someone into life as a Democrat in the first place serves that purpose.
And before someone starts pointing out the bleeding heart social justice warriors, that’s not conscience. That’s usually the result of an immature or desperately twisted worldview, along with this notion that their obnoxious will is to be imposed on everyone, no matter the cost.
With all that in mind, watch the last polls before the election carefully. This is a wrinkle the Clinton campaign didn’t need, although I feel it only moves the needle on the undecideds.
And if you missed Gowdy on Kelly’s program last night, you can watch here.
