Senator Marco Rubio Has Second Thoughts About Cleveland

Sometimes, it’s more about what they don’t say, than what they actually say.

The Tampa Bay Times is reporting that rather than go to Cleveland for the GOP convention, Florida Senator Marco Rubio will be staying home.

“Florida has always been a competitive state and it will be this fall. Marco had planned to go to the convention before he decided to seek re-election. Since Marco got into the race late, he will be in Florida campaigning and meeting with voters instead of going to Ohio,” spokeswoman Olivia Perez-Cubas said.

Rubio had originally planned to leave the Senate and re-enter private life after his term was up, but the threat of losing the Senate, due to the toxic stench of Trump as nominee led his colleagues, presumably, to convince him to stay.

While he cites campaigning as his reason for staying home, Rubio is enjoying a comfortable lead in the polls and could afford to take a day off, in order to grab a bigger spotlight at the national convention.

In late May Rubio said he would attend, surprising some given sharp campaign trail differences with Trump. “I want to be helpful. I don’t want to be harmful, because I don’t want Hillary Clinton to be president,” he said on CNN.

As the polls look increasingly dim for Republicans, due to the liberal Democrat who managed to con his way into the GOP nomination, many seem to be coming to the realization that the best way to be helpful is to focus on the down ballot races and exert more effort to maintain Republican seats in the House, as well as the gubernatorial offices.

And this is where I urge, on bended knee, that every rational, true conservative and patriot resolve to sacrifice time, money, and effort to maintaining the down ballot for Republicans.

Senator Rubio has the right idea.
