Efforts to subvert the Second Amendment have been largely thwarted, much to the chagrin of the gun-grabbing left. It would seem our founding fathers meant it when they declared “…the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.”
That doesn’t mean they aren’t looking for loopholes.
Grover Norquist, head of Americans for Tax Reform and a sitting board member of the National Rifle Association, has given warning, regarding the next move of the left:
“The Left is now seeking to tax guns out of existence. The Second Amendment makes it difficult to legally ban guns, but Hillary has led the way to explaining you can achieve the same thing with high taxes.”
In fact, Clinton has suggested a 25% sales tax on firearms.
Norquist points out a recent decision by the government of Northern Marianas Islands, which is a U.S. territory. The islands have lived under a total gun ban for forty years, but on March 28, 2016, a federal judge ruled the total ban unconstitutional, citing the Second Amendment as applying to the islands, as well.
According to Guns.com:
In a reply to the court order barring enforcement, the Commonwealth Senate passed a strict 57-page gun control proposal last week to which the House added a $1,000 per pistol excise tax, which the Senate approved unanimously on April 7, sending the bill to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres for expected signature.
This is just one more battle in the bigger war of preserving our freedoms from those who would exert control over us.
