OPINION: Biden May Not Have Betrayed Mossad Agents to Iran but the Proof It Didn't Happen Is Lacking

A Jerusalem Post story, citing sources in Kuwait, alleged that the Biden national security team gave the Iranians the names of deep-cover Mossad operatives working in Iran to try to de-escalate tensions between Israel and Iran.

The now heavily rewritten article was headlined US allegedly presented Tehran list of Mossad agents involved in Haniyeh assassination - report and described how a delegation secretly traveled to Tehran to try to tamp down an Iranian threat of massive retaliation against Israel for blowing up Hamas's Ismail Haniyeh in his Tehran guest quarters.

An unnamed source in Iran's Supreme National Security Council told Kuwaiti newspaper al Jarida that a high-ranking American security delegation, mediated by Oman, secretly traveled to Tehran, the Kuwaiti paper wrote on Wednesday.

“This is categorically false,” a US National Security Council spokesperson told The Post.

Fox News reported that the delegation allegedly sought to deliver messages to Tehran in order to de-escalate the tensions in the region between Iran and Israel, al Jarida noted in their reporting of the story.

The mission was reportedly to convey to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei that the Biden-Harris administration was "kept in the dark" by Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the assassinations of Hamas's Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah's Fuad Shukr. Israel took responsibility for the assassination of Shukr but has yet to comment on the death of Haniyeh in Tehran.

Allegedly, the American delegation presented a list with the names of ten Mossad agents within Iran whom the Americans believed were involved in the assassination, directly or indirectly.

Al Jarida said that the Americans would have reportedly done this as a "good faith" initiative in response to Israel's strikes, which were carried out without American coordination.

The New York Times reported "dozens" of people arrested in a security sweep following Israel changing Is-mail into Was-mail.

Iran has arrested more than two dozen people, including senior intelligence officers, military officials and staff workers at a military-run guesthouse in Tehran, in response to a huge and humiliating security breach that enabled the assassination of a top leader of Hamas, according to two Iranians familiar with the investigation.

The high-level arrests came after the killing in an explosion early Wednesday of Ismail Haniyeh, who had led Hamas’s political office in Qatar and was visiting Tehran for the inauguration of Iran’s new president and staying at the guesthouse in northern Tehran, Iran’s capital.

The article claims the US delegation visited Tehran "last Thursday," which would be August 8, so the Iranian arrests, reported on August 3, don't seem to be related despite Fox's reporting.

To say the article caused turmoil would be an understatement.

The pressure eventually forced the Jerusalem Post to extensively revise their article: US NSC to 'Post': Claims of sharing intel of Mossad agents with Tehran 'categorically false' - The Jerusalem Post (jpost.com)

The US National Security Council denied reports on Wednesday that a high-ranking American security delegation, mediated by Oman, secretly traveled to Tehran to share information in an effort to appease Iran.

The report first originated from a Fox News article, which has since been taken down, citing a report in the Kuwaiti newspaper Al Jarida, which allegedly spoke to an unnamed source in Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

“This is categorically false,” a US National Security Council spokesperson told The Jerusalem Post.

Caroline Glick bowed to the pressure, deleted her tweet, and disavowed the story.

All of this may be true. The Kuwaiti paper may have pushed an Iranian story to stir up mischief. Fox may not have done due diligence on the story. It all might be a clever bit of disinformation.

On the other hand, "a hit dog will holler."

The counterargument to the story is based on the idea that the Kuwaiti newspaper has links to the Tehran regime and has posted inaccurate stories. For instance:

That sounds plausible until you consider how many of the Steele Dossier stories that the media accepted at face value were also based on a single anonymous source. I'm not sure that is the strongest argument to make given our own media's performance during the Russia Hoax and COVID when they produced regime disinformation on a massive scale. I don't know why I'd believe the same people who were involved in sending $1.7 billion in cash to Tehran and lying about it rather than some other group of liars.

I read over and over that the story was not true, what I couldn't get an answer to was why.

The fact is that Biden's foreign policy is based on two impulses: fear and appeasement. Well, three impulses: fear, appeasement, and lies. We have read over and over about how the White House is trying to prevent "escalation" between Israel and Iran. We know from White House sources that Biden is trying to pressure Netanyahu into winding down the war in Gaza and not reacting to Hezbollah and Iranian provocations. We know that Iran has threatened to hit American targets if it can't adequately punish Israel; see Iran Warns US That If It Helps Israel Defend From Iran's Retaliation Itself Then the US Is Next – RedState. We know that the White House permits Iranian-backed gunmen to rocket US bases in the region with token retaliation.

We know that Biden's foreign policy and defense agencies have senior people with very close ties to Tehran; see Defense Official With Frequent White House Visits and Known Iranian Ties Has a Link to Kamala Harris. Kamala's national security adviser has been employed by what is described as Iran's lobbying arm in Washington.

We also know that the White House is in thrall to the "Palestinian" movement and is deeply anti-Israel, if not outright antisemitic. We saw that when Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, a pro-Israel Jew, was passed over in favor of a leftist and terrorist coddling Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

It doesn't take any imagination whatsoever to see how the reflexive panty-wetting by Jake Sullivan and his crew over "escalation" is going to get a hefty dose of meth and steroids as they try to avoid anything to upset Kamala's chances in November.

I understand why people don't want to believe the story is true. I'd also love to be able to tell the story of an outrageous fraud. What I don't understand is what about the story isn't both plausible and totally on-brand for the Biden White House.
