There are two unsupportable fictions about the current spate of rioting hitting some Democrat-run cities in Democrat-run states. The first is that BLM is primarily a peaceful organization dedicated to eradicating police brutality. The second is that the military wing of BLM, the so-called Antifa, does not have an organizational structure. In this make-believe world, the fundraising, the arming and equipping of street thugs happens organically. The transportation expenses, the food, the lodging? That is all provided by charity.
As early as June, NYPD was reporting that pallets and plastic tubs of bricks and stone were being dropped off overnight before a riot kicked off. This requires centralized planning (where and when the riot takes place, how to purchase or steal the brick and stone, acquiring transportation for the adventure, etc.), organizational structure (getting people to show up to act as meat shields for the hard core thugs) and the existence of an active cadre of what amounts to professional terrorists.
In Kenosha, for instance, a significant percentage of the people arrested by police were from out-of-state (READ: . Not from a little, tiny bit of out-of-state like Northern Illinois, but a lot of out-of-state like when the “Riot Ribs” food truck showed up from Seattle (READ: )).
Last night, on Tucker Carlson’s show, Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf (possibly the coolest name her possessed by any cabinet secretary) announced that his Department and the FBI are examining the funding of the Antifa rioters.
“This is something that I have talked to the AG personally about,” Wolf told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson on Monday night, saying that the department is focused on “targeting and investigating the head of these organizations, [and] the individuals that are paying for these individuals to move across the country.
“What we know, Tucker, is that we have seen groups and individuals move from Portland to other parts of the country,” he continued.
The very fact that Wolf is willing to talk about the investigation is probably a sign that a lot of progress has been made. The prelude of every Portland riot, the riot itself, and the aftermath will provide a treasure trove of information if the federal authorities are intercepting cell calls. Every arrest they make of one of these would-be Ramzi Youssef’s with their cellphone unlocked in camera mode gives tons of information into basic communications patterns and who is communicating with who about what.
Like in so many other human endeavors, money is also the lifeblood of violent revolution. Identifying the funding sources and the money men and shutting them down will knock out Antifa just as effectively as targeting the network of al-Qaeda took it out of the fight.
