While President Trump not only survived the vindictive and partisan impeachment attempt against him (Pelosi may say he’s ‘impeached forever’ but he’s the first impeached official in the history of the Republic to have a majority of the Senate vote against all articles of impeachment) but managed to thrive, there is one clear casualty of the whole process. Joe Biden.
If you look at the national polls, Biden held a very consistent double digit lead over the number two competitor up until the end of December. Then things started to change. And not for the better. By the time the Articles of Impeachment were delivered to the Senate on January 16, Biden was in high single digits…and falling.
It was much the same for New Hampshire. Biden had been making steady progress against Sanders and actually had a lead for a few days. Then impeachment happened and his campaign went into a tailspin.
New poll shows Biden falling to a weak fourth place and very likely to finish fifth tomorrow night.
#NewHampshire Suffolk/Boston Globe Poll
(Change from yesterday)Sanders 27% (+3)
Buttigieg 19% (-3)
Klobuchar 14% (+5)
Warren 12% (-1)
Biden 12% (+2)
Yang 3% (-)
Gabbard 3% (+1)
Steyer 2% (-)— Political Polls (@PpollingNumbers) February 10, 2020
This looks like a ~5 point lead for Sanders. He's in a nice position though that's certainly not a safe lead for NH. Klobuchar could pass Biden and/or Warren on Tuesday. Our average:
Sanders 26.0
Buttigieg 20.9
Warren 12.7
Biden 12.3
Klobuchar 9.5https://t.co/nRWOEjafiW pic.twitter.com/Sz6HpVmtZy— Nate Silver (@NateSilver538) February 10, 2020
The real question mark here is if the Suffolk poll has detected voters rallying to Klobuchar.
The impact on Biden has become so pronounced that even people who would be counted as his supporters are noticing:
A fascinating/perhaps dispiriting thing is happening on the trail. Dem voters are moving away from Biden out of fear about the attacks Trump will launch in the general election on Hunter. https://t.co/D0KL5ryBBM

Most Democrats, I have to believe, know Joe Biden is basically a one-man circus of corruption, at least in steering large sums of money into the paths of members of his rapacious family. They were willing to chuckle and avert their eyes and go along with this until it became revealed. I think all of them know that should Biden get the nomination that the main issue during the election is going to be Joe Biden steering business deal to Hunter Biden and his brother, James, and not whatever nuttiness the Democrats want to talk about. Even if you don’t believe the stories, the realization has to be sinking it that Biden, who was always vastly overrated as a candidate, is simply not electable.
If Biden finishes fifth in New Hampshire after finishing fourth in Iowa, we might as well stick a fork in him.
