President Trump just wrapped up his Totally Acquitted press conference.

While it was mostly a thank you to all the people in Congress who helped him out…and it was warm, generous, and heartfelt thanks, not note-card thanks…he let it be known that he was not a happy man. He started by saying that the attempt to oust him from office “started the day we came down the escalator. It should never happen to another president ever.”

Of course, #OrangeManBad touched CNN in a very, very bad place

My impressions:

Payback is coming. He called Comey a ‘sleazebag’ (FACT CHECK: True) and said he might not be president today had he not fired Comey. He did a dramatic reading of the Strzok-Page texts. He said people tried to ‘overthrow the government’ which is pretty much the dictionary definition of sedition. He stated the FBI knew within two days of beginning their inquiry that the Russia Hoax was just exactly that but they continued. I don’t think that was idle chatter, it struck me as where the hammer is going to fall first.

If Democrats thought they could play the old George (both of them) Bush game of publicly attacking the President as a liar and a traitor and still have him cooperating with them behind the scenes on legislation, that isn’t going to happen. There is a virtual state of war in existence right now and the rift is probably impossible to heal.

The array of significant House and Senate Republicans that he publicly thanked was significant because it shows a unified GOP and the tone of the thanks strongly implied more is to come.

This, to use a metaphor, was the Highland chieftain setting afire to the cross on the hilltop calling all of his vassals and kinsmen to gather and rally to his clan to the cause.
