The White House and Congressional leaders have reached a deal to fund the government for three weeks while more negotiations take place on the funding for the wall.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private deliberations.
The White House announced that Trump would speak from the Rose Garden of the White House at 1:30 p.m. The officials said the tentative deal was subject to change until announced by Trump.
The developments came as Senate leaders scrambled Friday in search of a short-term deal to end the partial government shutdown as major delays at airports around the country produced a heightened sense of urgency.
This is not a good look if Trump is serious about getting the money for the wall. Already last evening he was showing flopsweat by floating a “down payment” idea. This is called “negotiating with yourself,” and it is what desperate people do.
The three week funding isn’t going to get us anything…assuming a complete cave by the GOP and Trump isn’t in the offing…but another shutdown. The shutdown was beginning to bite, LaGuardia was closed for traffic for at least part of today, and you need pain to bring a recalcitrant opponent to the table. Sometimes the pain is mutual and then the question is who can bear up the longest.
I really hope that Trump knows if he backs down on this that a lot of his base voters might have urgent business on November 3, 2020, like taking a dump or something, and not bother to vote.
