Here’s something you don’t see every day: a high-ranking police official in New York state stands accused of driving the getaway car for her son after he fired shots at rivals. Now, they’re both facing attempted murder charges.
She just cost herself a pretty good job:

The tweet continues:
A high-ranking Westchester County police official drove the getaway car for her son in an apparent gangland shooting in the Bronx, police and sources said Tuesday.
Jennifer Lackard, a deputy police commissioner with the Mount Vernon Police Department, was arrested at her home Tuesday morning, along with her son, Chase Lackard, 20, after the young man allegedly shot at a group of rivals near the Bronx Criminal Court on June 29 at 11:57 p.m.
He then rushed into her car before she drove off.
Nobody was injured in the shooting.
The pair were hit with attempted murder, attempted assault, criminal possession of a firearm, conspiracy and reckless endangerment charges.
The mom raked in $138,219 with the police department last year, according to SeeThroughNY.
Chase has a history of this sort of thing:
In 2024, Chase, a reputed member of the “Slutty Gang,” was shot by police after he allegedly wielded a gun during a dispute in Clason Point...
Only a year earlier, her troubled son, then 17, was also shot in the chest on a Bx5 bus in Soundview after fighting with three other youths, cops said at the time.
Lackard allegedly flashed gang signs at the boys and then asked for their gang affiliation before allegedly trying to drag one of them off the bus.
Mount Vernon is an independent city in Westchester County, just north of the Bronx borough of New York City.
The MVPD released a statement about the 49-year-old former “Deputy Commissioner of Wellness” and quickly distanced themselves from her as far away as possible:
The allegations are unrelated to her duties with the Mount Vernon Police Department and do not stem from any conduct associated with the Department or the performance of her official responsibilities. Effective immediately, the City of Mount Vernon has terminated Mrs. Lackard's employment.

It’s not the first time the department has made the news; a 2024 Justice Department investigation alleged that all sorts of dubious activity was going on:
Specifically, the Justice Department finds that MVPD:
- Uses excessive force in numerous ways, including by unnecessarily escalating minor encounters and by overusing tasers and closed-fist strikes, particularly against individuals who have already been taken to the ground, are controlled by many officers or are already fully or partially restrained;
- Conducted unlawful strip searches and body cavity searches of individuals until at least 2023; and
- Makes arrests without probable cause.
The City pledged to cooperate with any proposed DOJ recommendations.
Given the history of her son, one wonders if Lackard was on the radar as a possible source of trouble. One also can’t help but ask, if high-ranking officials in the department are covering for their gangbanger kids, what else still goes on in the Mount Vernon PD?
