Yesterday, I posted on the slap fight between former FBI director and current drama queen, James Comey, and a rather pathetic former deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe. While the fight might have some long-term consequences for a lot of people, the most interesting part of the spat is that it provides some insight into how Comey sees himself and, more importantly, how he sees people outside his inner circle.

To completely understand it, remember that McCabe was canned literally hours before he was scheduled to retire based on an investigation by the Department of Justice IG. That report was released last Friday and it basically showed McCabe to be a liar and someone who would throw subordinates under the bus to save his own ass–he called the special agents in charge of the NYC and DC field offices and berated them over a leak to the Wall Street Journal that McCabe, himself, had orchestrated.

Yesterday, Comey revealed that it was he who ordered the investigation of McCabe:

During his appearance on The View Wednesday, fired FBI director James Comey confirmed a Daily Beast report saying that he tipped off the investigation that led to former Deputy Attorney General Andrew McCabe’s firing. “The McCabe case illustrates what an organization that’s committed to the truth looks like. We investigated — I ordered that investigation. We investigate and hold people accountable,” Comey said. “I still believe Andrew McCabe is a good person, but the inspector general found that he lied, and there are severe consequences in the Justice Department for lying as there should be throughout the government.” The Daily Beast report outlined how Comey directed the Bureau’s internal Inspection Division to find out who leaked documents mentioned in an October 2016 Wall Street Journal report. The division discovered the leaker was most likely McCabe— and then handed the case over to the Justice Department’s inspector general. The IG then determined that McCabe committed misconduct, which led to his firing.

Compare and contrast this with how he described McCabe after he was forced out as FBI deputy director.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane to the prosecution of Martha Stewart…for lying. I’m not a fan of rich scofflaws (that might change if I ever become rich) but the prosecution of Martha Stewart was one of those quintessential chickensh** cases pursued to make a point. The government went after her just because they could. She could have been fined by the SEC and accomplished the same thing.

So Martha Stewart maybe lies to investigators and goes to prison and Andrew McCabe lies to investigators four times and tries to cover his tracks and he’s a great public servant. And I won’t even get started on the numerous lies and evasions told by Hillary Clinton.

If Comey truly believed the claptrap he’s trying to pawn off on a credulous media he would have gone after both Clinton and McCabe hammer-and-tongs. While Martha Stewart was merely a television/media personality, Clinton and McCabe held immense power. McCabe, in particular, signed off on charging people for lying to federal investigators and his behavior was watched and modeled by the FBI.

By letting them both slide, Comey revealed the utter bankruptcy of his value system. The clear takeaway is that prosecution for lying has zero to do with lying and everything to do with who you are. If you are a member of the correct clique, like McCabe, the law doesn’t apply to you. If you are sufficiently powerful, like Hillary Clinton, the law doesn’t apply to you. If, however, you are not of the priesthood or elect, like Mike Flynn, then you get indicted. For all of Comey’s moralizing about Divine Justice, all he really does is cause himself to stand condemned as a flaming hypocrite and liar by his own words and actions.
