Details are sketchy but this is what we know so far:
The USS Thunderbolt, a Cyclone-class patrol craft, was escorting the Ticonderoga-class Aegis-equipped guided missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf. They were shadowed by an Iranian patrol boat that ignored all warnings and closed to within 150 yards of the Thunderbolt.

Expect more of this as tensions between the US and Iran increase. If, as I expect, the US walks away from the Iran nuclear deal in 90 days, it will get very exciting in the Persian Gulf.
