The Trump team has been cutting spending.
As my colleague Joe Cunningham explained, the DOGE cuts are now wending their way through Congress, and hopefully, they will get passed. They are also now proceeding with cutting positions at the State Department.
It sounds like someone at the State Department was not happy with that decision. A State Department employee allegedly sent a picture to PBS, which showed some displeasure with this decision.
A State Department employee shared with PBS News an image from inside the department. The image includes a piece of paper taped to a mirror with the words, "Colleagues, if you remain: RESIST FASCISM. Remember the oath you vowed to uphold."

The State Department is firing around… pic.twitter.com/iq8Geg9p3s
According to PBS:
A State Department employee shared with PBS News an image from inside the department. The image includes a piece of paper taped to a mirror with the words, "Colleagues, if you remain: RESIST FASCISM. Remember the oath you vowed to uphold."
The State Department is firing around 1,300 staffers Friday as part of the Trump administration's reorganization of the agency. The layoff notices include both civil servants and foreign service officers.
That says so much about both PBS and whoever put up the sign. What courage, putting up a sign in the bathroom.
We have a huge national debt, and a government job is not a job for life. In the State Department, particularly, it is about carrying out the policy of the United States as set by - you guessed it - the duly-elected president. If you are not working according to that, you shouldn't be there. If you think that's "fascism," you are deluded. Not to mention that cutting government the way that President Donald Trump has been trying to do is the furthest thing from fascism. It's cutting back on his power rather than increasing it.
They think they, as the bureaucratic class, should get to dictate to the President when the reality is the other way around. He's the elected head, not them. Plus, if they're in the State Department and they don't understand the meaning of fascism, they should get fired.
Then, too, this also says something about PBS. They doubtless think they are reporting on some courageous resistance, not on something showing exactly why that person should have gotten the ax. They're completely lacking in reality, and probably thinking this serves their own defense, as they, too, face cuts. It just makes people see how worthless they are as well. That's a golden example for the members of Congress now considering the question of cutting PBS.
The State Department needs to conduct a review of this incident.
Thanks, PBS, for showing us why this move to pare down the State Department was the right move.
A complete lack of professionalism that only convinces me that more cuts are needed. https://t.co/DkvJ6razd4
