Yesterday I posted on the serious blow that South Carolina congressman and Donald Trump OMB director-designate had suffered to his confirmation chances. He had failed to pay some $15,000 in payroll taxes on a household employee, basically a nanny, dating back to 2000. His recent discovery of the shortcoming looked, to my mind, suspiciously like he had never intended to pay the taxes and only did so when he knew they would come up in his confirmation hearing.
What had seemed like a doomed nomination yesterday looks, today, like it might survive:

If Mulvaney has, as it seems, Mike Enzi’s support, then he stands a much better than 50-50 chance of being confirmed.
