Big Money Democrat Donors Have A Sad Because They Could Not Buy An Election

Oh, the humanity. Super rich Democrat donors are angry because they didn’t get the product they were promised: Hillary Clinton. This must be Schadenfreude Thursday. Via The Hill:

Democratic donors stung by Hillary Clinton’s upset loss in the presidential race feel like they just set their money on fire.

The sore feelings are a huge problem for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), which is trying to rebuild its image and reinvigorate a defeated party in time for challenging midterm elections in 2018.

It’s also a worry for top liberal activists as they prepare for war with President-elect Donald Trump and a GOP Congress that is hell-bent on rolling back President Obama’s accomplishments.

Many Democratic donors still feel burned by the party’s 2016 election losses and what they see as dysfunction in the DNC, which will elect a new leader in February.

Adding insult to the injury: The names of many donors were released in the WikiLeaks hack of Democratic emails, believed to have come at the hands of Russian intelligence. It was a mortifying development that has rattled some of the party’s big-money men and women.

“They’re tired,” one DNC official told The Hill. “They’re upset about the election, and there was significant trauma surrounding the Russians. They’re upset and they’re tired.”

Democratic investors went in on Clinton to the tune of more than $550 million, believing she would dispatch Trump, deliver Democrats the Senate and help the party make inroads into the GOP’s House majority.

A couple of thoughts come to mind here. Obviously, these people are used to buying elections. Their obvious metric is that the guy who spends the most money wins. This has been a progressive delusion for decades. Only a couple of weeks before the famous 1994 blowout, a progressive political science professor authored an op-ed in the Washington Post conclusively proving that campaign donations predict victory and, ergo, the Democrats had nothing to fear because they were kicking ass on fundraising. You saw the same basic analysis in 2010 and 2014. The candidate doesn’t matter. The issues don’t matter. The national climate doesn’t matter. Only cash matters. This, by the way, explains 100% of the Democrat objection to Citizens United and the Koch brothers.

Secondly, it shows that these donors might be very savvy in their own line of business but they are babes in the woods when it comes to dealing with battle-hardened grifters and scammers like the Clintons and their inner circle. You could look at any one of their campaign finance reports and see an obvious problem, they were hiring enough people to staff a large business. This was about putting Clinton loyalists on the dole and enriching the Clintons, pure and simple. The campaign was run using the exact same model business model as the Clinton Foundation.

This, however, will be a temporary setback for the Democrats. The people who got scammed this time are now called, in technical parlance, “marks.” They’ve shown themselves to be rabid consumers of progressive moonshine (the figurative not the liquid variety) and they will be victimized again before 2019 rolls around.
