In Davenport, Iowa, last week, Donald Trump sounded like he had been reading RedState when he critiqued the Iran nuclear deal — and then decided our analysis was too over the top and toned it back a bit.
Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says the nuclear deal with Iran is so bad, he is close to wondering whether it was done poorly on purpose.
“It’s almost like there has to be something else going on,” he said Saturday night at a rally in Biloxi, Miss. “I don’t think there is, I just don’t think they’re competent.”
Trump said he couldn’t believe the U.S. would agree to a deal with Iran that did not include the return of Americans held prisoner in Iran.
“Who would make that deal?” he asked, suggesting Tehran was celebrating as the agreement was being negotiated.
Trump needs to learn that if he is discussing the Obama administration that the Venn Diagrams of mayhem caused by incompetence and those caused by design are largely overlapping. In the case of the Iran nuclear deal, not only were negotiations left to a bunch of imbeciles but the product of the negotiations was largely what Obama had desired.
Marco Rubio understands this.
“It’s now abundantly clear: Barack Obama has deliberately weakened America,” Rubio said early Monday during a speech on national security at the American Legion in Hooksett, N.H.
“He has made an intentional effort to humble us back to size,” the GOP presidential hopeful said. “As if to say: we no longer need to be so powerful because our power has done more harm than good.
“Happiest of all have been America’s enemies,” he added. “[It is] because when America steps back, it gives darker forces the space they need to rise. And rise they have.”
He also criticized Obama for ignoring international challenges and eroding safety at home.
“America is in far greater danger today than it was eight years ago,” Rubio said. “Our president thought he could make America like Luxembourg or Switzerland. But he can’t.
“We are the United States of America – the highest-profile, most important, most powerful country in the world. And while we may ignore problems that exist far away, those problems do not ignore us.”
[mc_name name=’Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’R000595′ ] is completely right. The essence of the Iran nuclear deal was to create a nuclear armed regional superpower; that would be Iran, a nation designated as a state sponsor of terrorism. Ostensibly, that superpower would be somewhat friendly with the United States and act as a force for stability in the Middle East. We all know that is bogus. The Iranian regime and the leadership of the all-powerful Iran Revolutionary Guard not only loathe the United States, they need to foster enmity with the US in order to divert the attention of their people from the ruin the current Iranian regime has made of that country. Iran has been pushed into the role of a nuclear superpower by Obama to hamstring the ability of any future US president to actively intervene in the region in pursuit of America’s national interest. He has also probably calculated that a nuclear Iran will make the cost of our support of Israel too high to sustain.
Other than erecting barriers to actions by future presidents, Obama has been obsessed with being the anti-Bush. When Obama made the conscious decision to forfeit a hard-won victory in Iraq and an achievable victory in Afghanistan he did so for the simple reason that if he preserved those victories then George Bush would have been right about something. He couldn’t have that. The administration’s reaction to the “Arab Spring” has the same genesis. Obama and his minions set out to prove that they could overthrow random dictators and establish friendly governments by lobbing in a few bombs and letting the locals sort it out. Gone were massive invasions and expensive occupations.
Regardless of the motivation, Obama’s actions in Ukraine, the South China Sea, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt, and Syria have left the United States weaker and distrusted by her allies. And that was the plan all along.
