There is a new Center for Medical Progress video out today showing, conclusively, that Planned Parenthood makes a significant amount of money from selling parts from dead babies, that they rely on it financially, and that they are terrified of the story on that revenue stream getting out. This happens while there is a fight over Planned Parenthood funding brewing on Capitol Hill and [mc_name name=’Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’M000355′ ] and [mc_name name=’Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’B000589′ ] are desperately trying to find some way to fold while giving the illusion that they fought one helluva fight. You can bet in this fight one of the big lies that will be told is that Planned Parenthood clinics are a vital part of the network that provides’s women’s health services.
What if we could invent an organization that would provide cancer screening, birth control and annual health exams for poor women? What if that organization could test for and treat sexually transmitted diseases and urinary tract infections, provide counseling for ending smoking and obesity and screen people for high blood pressure, anemia and diabetes? What if that organization were to have the ability to impact the lives of 11.4 million people in the United States, to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies and abortions and make for healthier adults, especially among women? Wouldn’t it make sense to ensure that funds are available for such a group?
But the truth is, we have such an organization, and our government is talking about defunding it. Planned Parenthood is the largest U.S. provider of reproductive health services. The millions of women who are or who have been Planned Parenthood patients attest to its life-saving work. Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky serve 67,000 patients a year.
These are the facts – unvarnished, clear and important.
So, why is this trusted provider – Planned Parenthood – now under attack and threatened with defunding? Because an extremist group working across this country wants to eliminate safe and legal abortion services and shut down Planned Parenthood.
Using edited and misleading videos, this group lied to Planned Parenthood staff members and are now making outrageous and inaccurate claims about their services. And now, some elected officials in Washington are using these videos to try to defund Planned Parenthood.
As they say, let’s look at the numbers:
If you look at the two opinion pieces on the indispensability of Planned Parenthood, the first is from Indiana. There are 23 Planned Parenthood clinics in Indiana and 216 other publicly subsidized health clinics. The second article comes from New Mexico. There are 6 Planned Parenthood facilities in New Mexico and 165 other centers. The Planned Parenthood clinics are located in population centers where, if they disappeared, their customer base, less those women who want to kill their babies, could easily find alternative sources of care.
In fact, the only service Planned Parenthood provides that a woman can’t obtain just as easily somewhere else is abortion. Under ObamaCare, everyone in America has, by law, a primary care physician so there is no reason for anyone to visit one of these baby chop-shops for anything.
