I suppose that having no Constitutional test for intelligence and commonsense is a good thing. It opens up federal office to people who wouldn’t have adequate representation otherwise.
Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) on Thursday said the National Football League should punish the New England Patriots for allegedly deflating footballs in last Sunday’s conference championship against the Indianapolis Colts.
“I’m calling on the NFL to work with the NFL Players Association to restore the credibility of the game before the Super Bowl kicks off on Feb. 1. I am seeking decisive actions ensuring all teams are playing according to the rules,” Heller said.
He noted that he represents the only state where betting on sports is legal, giving him a unique interest in ensuring the integrity of the sport.
I don’t even know where to begin with that last sentence, I suppose this makes him an authority on running ethical whorehouses, too.
The takeaway from [mc_name name=’Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’H001041′ ]’s interest is that the nation’s big problems are solved and now we finally, at long last, have time to get down to fine-tuning society. We see this kind of pathetic grandstanding over and over, when a senator or representative inserts themselves into a controversy that JUST DOESN’T MATTER. If the Patriots are the Black Sox of the modern NFL (sometimes they act as much like an ongoing RICO violation as the Ravens) that is a matter for the NFL commissioner and club owners to sort out. Fans can vote on the issue by their television viewing and merchandise purchasing behavior. The last thing this needs is a the US Congress stepping into the role as rule-making authority for the NFL.
