Intolerance in Providence: Woke Backlash Hits LGBTQ Club Honoring Iryna Zarutska—Here’s How It Unfolded

Democrats just held "No Kings" rallies across the country. But apparently that rule doesn't apply to the "kings" like Mayor Smiley who run blue cities, nor do their statements of supposed compassion extend to murder victims who might still be alive if it weren't for the type of soft-on-crime Democrats we see running places like Providence.

MORNING MUSING

One of the well-known teaching methods employed in law schools is the "Socratic method" — "a technique of teaching or arguing by asking probing questions rather than giving direct answers, guiding someone to discover the truth themselves." (Yes, I borrowed a Reddit definition there, but it spells it out well, so I'm going with it.)

I've long maintained it shouldn't be limited to the classroom setting, however. In fact, any time you're hoping to have a productive dialogue with someone who doesn't share your views, I'd submit it's an effective approach. When you ask those probing questions and give others a chance to think through and explain their positions, it can be very illuminating — for them, even more so than you. Frankly, it was this approach directed to me that played a significant role in my own political conversion.

That said, while I don't know that I ever really hope to converse with Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA), I saw a tweet from him this morning that made me wish to introduce him to Socrates.

I'm launching an inquiry with @SenAlexPadilla on the alarming actions by ICE at San Francisco International Airport.

We must know what immigration data TSA is sharing with ICE and why.

The last thing we need are more scenes like the one we witnessed last week.

ICE agents shouldn't be at our airports.

He's a lawyer — I'm sure he's already familiar, to be fair. But I'd love to be able to ask him a series of questions, like:

  • Why shouldn't ICE agents be at our airports?
  • Where should they be allowed to operate?
  • Should they exist at all?
  • If not, why not?
  • If you held the majority and could ensure passage, what legislation would you propose to govern immigration and customs enforcement — how does that differ from what's on the books now?

I could go on and on with this, but really, even if he could provide a sound, logical answer to the first question, I'd love to hear it.
