Full Court Press...
It's Decision Day at SCOTUS — look for several decisions to be handed down beginning at 10:00 a.m. Eastern.
The Federal Trade Court struck down Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs, stating that they exceeded the statutory limits of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) and thus violated the Constitution’s separation of powers. The administration has already appealed that decision to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
The administration has also applied to the Supreme Court for a stay in the case involving the deportation of illegal aliens to a third country (South Sudan).
And oral argument has been set for June 11 in the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals on Trump's Manhattan criminal case (the issue being whether or not the case should have been removed from New York state court to federal court).
COMING ATTRACTIONS
President Trump is set to visit and deliver remarks at U.S. Steel in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, on Friday.
MORNING MUSING
I suppose it's probably one of the hazards that accompany my getting a bit long in the tooth, but I find myself frequently waxing nostalgic for "the good old days." (See? Even typing that took me back to another fond memory.) I expect this isn't unique to my fellow Gen-Xers and me — this sense that we grew up in better, simpler times. But I do think about it quite a bit (and frequently see others express similar sentiments).
I was reminded of it again Wednesday night as someone I follow on X shared a video of John Denver singing "Country Roads" and remarked on the transcendence of his voice. There's a reason why the entire crowd will start singing along whenever that song is played at a Blues game or other large event. It resonates and, I suspect for many, transports us back to the days when John Denver was ubiquitous and his songs spoke to so many of us.
Not going to lie — I miss those times.
Since he's on my mind now, will share this, too. What a lovely voice and spirit he had.
