No, Chuck Todd. Not 'shame on us.'

Shame on YOU.

WHAT'S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill...

Obviously, the big news out of Capitol Hill Thursday morning is the House passing the "Big, Beautiful Bill." Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said he wanted to get it done before Memorial Day, and lo and behold, they did. Now it's on to the Senate.

There are fewer meetings/hearings set for Thursday (probably just as well as there are likely some rather tired Congress critters this AM — the Senate also was up late wrangling over the passage of H.J.Res.88 - "Providing congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Environmental Protection Agency relating to 'California State Motor Vehicle and Engine Pollution Control Standards; Advanced Clean Cars II; Waiver of Preemption; Notice of Decision.'")

But there are a handful set, including:

  • House Foreign Affairs, South and Central Asia Subcommittee — Assessing the Terror Threat Landscape in South and Central Asia and Examining Opportunities for Cooperation
  • Senate Appropriations, Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Subcommittee — Hearings to examine proposed budget estimates for fiscal year 2026 for the Department of Labor [Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer to testify]
  • Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs — Hearings to examine securing America, focusing on key authorities under the Defense Production Act
  • House Foreign Affairs, Africa Subcommittee — A Dire Crisis in Sudan: A Global Call to Action
  • Senate Appropriations, Department of Defense Subcommittee — Hearings to examine proposed budget estimates for fiscal year 2026 for the National Guard and Reserves Forces
  • Senate Appropriations, Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Subcommittee — Hearings to examine proposed budget estimates for fiscal year 2026 for the Food and Drug Administration [FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary to testify]

White House What's Up

President Donald Trump is celebrating the BBB passage this morning. At 11:00 a.m. Eastern, he'll receive his intelligence briefing. He'll then have lunch with Vice President JD Vance. In the afternoon, he'll participate in a "MAHA Commission Event" in the East Room. He's got a private dinner Thursday evening at Trump National Golf Club.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will hold a press briefing at 1:00 p.m. Eastern.

Full Court Press...

On Wednesday, we brought you the story of a Massachusetts judge who was effectively blocking the deportation of eight vicious criminals to South Sudan. That case took an even more bizarre twist Wednesday evening — will have an article out on that shortly.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

We should get multiple Supreme Court decisions on Thursday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Eastern.

Vice President Vance will speak at the U.S. Naval Academy graduation on Friday.

MORNING MUSING

I was winding down for the evening on Wednesday when the news broke about the horrific shooting of a young couple outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. I wrote up the breaking news story, but I didn't process it. I still haven't. Because it hurts too much to — and I don't even have a personal connection to the victims.

But knowing they were targeted and gunned down as a result of this horrific hatred that keeps being stoked by evil that's not even attempting to hide its face anymore cuts to the core. All I can think of this morning is John Ondrasik's haunting missive:

We Are Not OK.

LIGHTER FARE

Fairly certain this is photoshopped, but it's cute nonetheless.
