This asinine proposal is from Newsom's California Energy Commission (CEC), which was formed in 2023 after Newsom called a special session in 2022 demanding that legislators "do something" to prevent alleged price gouging by Big Oil.

There's still some congressional business going on, even while the summer recess drags on. On Wednesday, House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) issued subpoenas to the company where Loren Merchan, daughter of Juan Merchan, who presided over the Manhattan trial of former President Donald Trump, does her consulting work for prominent Democrats. Moreover, the bipartisan task force looking into the July 13 shooting of Trump has issued extensive requests for documents to the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service.

The Homestretch

Vice President Kamala Harris and running mate Tim Walz will be sitting for their joint interview with CNN's Dana Bash early Thursday afternoon. Then they'll hit a campaign stop in Savannah, Georgia. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, meanwhile, will be at events in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Ketchum, Idaho.

Trump will be attending a town hall event in La Crosse, Wisconsin. His running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), will speak at the Boston firefighters convention.

MORNING MUSING

I'd like to talk with you about food. Years ago, I discovered — almost completely by accident — the benefits of an anti-inflammatory diet. I'd packed on the pounds and was feeling lousy, so I looked into changing up my diet and settled on the Mediterranean Diet — not as restrictive as Keto (which I knew I'd never be able to stick to). Really, not restrictive at all — just a different, more deliberate approach to what I was consuming. I tried it out. And I did lose weight (about 20 pounds when all was said and done). But one day, after being on it for maybe three or four weeks, I woke up and realized that nothing hurt. My joints didn't ache like they normally did. I actually felt good. It was then that I realized that not only was the Mediterranean Diet helpful in terms of weight loss, it was actually anti-inflammatory. That's not why I pursued it — but what an amazing benefit and lesson.

Since then, I've wandered away from it and re-engaged in some of my bad eating habits. And guess what? I feel like crud. I'm heavier than I want to be, and my joints ache. By accident, I stumbled across the video below. I'm not a regular Tucker watcher, but I did watch his interview with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and they referenced this interview with Casey and Calley Means several times. So, I decided to check it out. Not gonna lie — my mind is kind of blown. They pack more information and insight into this two hours than I can ever remember seeing/hearing. All I can say is: I highly, highly recommend a watch/listen.
