South Carolina Senator Tim Scott may have been competing against both former President Donald Trump and his fellow South Carolinian, former Governor Nikki Haley for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination just a short time ago, but he suspended his race in mid-November and is now set to endorse Trump in the race.

While Scott and Trump have had a largely cordial relationship — and Scott is among those considered as possible running mates for the former president — the surprise, to the extent there is one here, comes from the fact that Haley is the one who appointed Scott to the Senate in 2013. That didn't keep the two from sparring somewhat during the debate in late September, when curtains became a hot bone of contention.

Scott is now set to appear with Trump and formally endorse him at a Friday night rally in New Hampshire ahead of Tuesday's primary.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) will formally endorse former President Trump on Friday night, a move that comes after a concerted lobbying effort and ahead of next week’s New Hampshire primary.

Two sources familiar said Scott will endorse Trump at a rally in the Granite State. A spokesperson for the Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

While Trump and Haley were both reported to be vying for the endorsement, Trump appears to have won that battle.

One source noted Trump and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley were angling for Scott’s backing in recent days as Trump tries to put the primary contest to bed and Haley, who appointed Scott to the Senate in 2013 as South Carolina governor, fights for political survival.

That Scott is opting to align with Trump over his fellow South Carolinian may be seen as a snub to Haley, but it's also the nature of the politics beast. Scott appears to be following the same playbook that Florida senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott are in endorsing Trump for the nomination.

Friday's rally is set to begin at 7:30 pm Eastern in Concord, New Hampshire.
