Moore to the Point - No News Is Good News

“No news is good news” used to mean something entirely different than it does now. The idea was that unless you heard otherwise, you could assume all was well. And that’s not a terrible way to look at things – why worry about bad news that may never come? While things are good – or even okay – enjoy and live in that; appreciate the moments of contentment life affords you.

Now that following the news is my job and not just a pastime, I’m keenly aware that these days, virtually none of the news we receive or share qualifies as “good news.” In fairness, there’s always been a tilt toward the negative. The phrase “If it bleeds, it leads,” has been a truism for over a century and, not to make you feel old, but Don Henley’s song “Dirty Laundry” is over 40 years old.

So, the fact that most news seems to be of the not-good variety is not, well, new or news. It’s just that there’s seemingly so much of it anymore, it can be a bit overwhelming — and lead one to the conclusion that there simply isn’t any good news anymore.

Remember, though, there is. There are good people doing good things in this world. Sometimes, you just may need to squint a little to see them.
