Here’s the whole tweet, courtesy of my laptop’s Snipping tool:

Oh, to be sure, millions around the world (and a few Redstate front pagers) will delight in it.

But it does open up quite a few opportunities for Donald Trump.  Opportunities to openly speculate why Angela Merkle’s office would release a photo this embarrassing at this time.  “This time” is just two days before the president goes to face off with Kim Jong Un, and hopefully start us on the beginning of the end of the Korean War.  (Which is still going on, BTW).

I’m sure the MSM reporters following him will chide…sorry, ask him about it. Here’s hoping the president, or his Secretary of State, or National Security Adviser, wonders aloud on Air Force One why the German chancellor’s office would post a picture like this, at a time like this.

If Team Trump is looking for some suggested musings, here are a few.  (Feel free to add your own in the comments).

  • “Perhaps the Germans didn’t realize how this might look on the world stage.  Well, it IS possible…they’ve only really been a nation for 25 years.”
  • “We keep hearing how the Germans are the mature ones on the world stage and the Trump administration is the petulant one.  Might want to rethink that.”
  • “Are the Germans trying to torpedo the talks?  Perhaps they’re scared of economic competition from a reunited Korea.  Or they want to make sure that Japan and Taiwan have to spend large portions of their GDP on defense.  Speaking of defense spending  as a proportion of a nation’s GDP…”
  • “Well, last week, Chancellor Merkel said she wanted closer ties with the Chinese.  Perhaps the Chinese want the talks to fail, and Chancellor Merkel did this as a favor to them?  You know, on spec?”
  • Reminds me of a similar stunt the Communists pulled during the Korean War peace talks.  The American delegates entered the conference room and sat down—and found that someone had cut several inches off the legs of their chairs.  The Americans found themselves looking up at their DPRK counterparts…while North Korean and Chinese cameras snapped photos galore.  Perhaps Merkel’s press people were simply reacting on instinct.”

And lastly, think of all the meme possibilities…
