When Hollywood Gets It Right: Jon Voight Honors Gold Star Families In A Deeply Touching Way

Hollywood tends to be cynical about anything they consider borderline “nationalist.” And they tend to be rabidly opposed to anything Donald Trump does on “ethical” principle. And patriotic Americans tend to think all of Hollywood shares these tendencies.

But there are a few holdouts in La La Land who still respect the traditions of our nation and honor those who gave the last full measure of devotion to keep her safe. Academy Award winning icon Jon Voight (“Coming Home”) is one of those holdouts.

Voight was invited to be a guest of Moms for America to join Gold Star families at the Rally for Freedom, anti-socialism event in Washington, DC on the Fourth of July. He accepted and said, a few days prior:

“There’s no greater honor than to stand with these moms who have lost their loved ones who sacrificed for our country, for our freedoms, and who love and honor and respect our nation,” Voight said. “If they knew anything about the Second World War, they’d know that socialism is a disaster It’s never produced anything anywhere in the world. It’s an economic sinkhole, but it also produces nothing but misery and violence.

Cut to the day of, when rain fell most of the day leading to delays and worries about crowd attendance. Someone in the crowd caught a video of someone purported to be Voight himself wiping rain from the chairs of Gold Star families.

A small gesture of great importance. Sometimes Hollywood gets it right.
