SHOCKED FACE: Putin Funnels Money to Lefty Enviro Groups

While it sounds like something out of a Cold War-era alternate history novel, turns out that Moscow may have had a hand in kompromat that attempted to convince Americans that their own energy industry was a bad and evil thing via anti-fracking and anti-energy environmental groups.

A fascinating video from the Clear Energy Alliance makes the case — using a GOP Senator’s letter calling for an investigation, reputable news coverage, and even the words of Hillary Clinton herself — that American eco-activists have been taking money from Putin’s Russia to harm the US energy industry.

The charge is that Russia has been funneling tens-of-millions of dollars to anti-fracking and anti-energy activists groups. The funding supposedly went toward ad campaigns that warned of the danger of hydraulic fracturing and toward efforts to shut down pipelines (both of which we’ve heard a lot about in the mainstream press over the last several years).

The weirdest part is that Hillary Clinton is reported to have admitted the Russian campaign during a private speech back in 2014 where she referenced “phony environmental groups funded by the Russians” who wanted to damage the reputation of the American energy industry.

A Senate report later that year – remember, this is 2014 — made the claim that most environmental groups were backed by small, very wealthy groups of people who had an express interest in stopping coal, oil, and gas production, the video alleges.

Apparently this information has been well-known for many years, and is the result of Russia working to keep nations dependent on imported Russian gas. One of the main groups that takes in Russian money — after it’s been funneled through offshore shell companies — is a group called Virginia Organizing. This “grassroots” organization then works against the efforts of natural gas pipelines on the east coast.

Russia’s attempts to sow chaos in American affairs goes well beyond Facebook and election meddling it would appear. Watch for yourself below.
