Woke WNBA Coach's Take on Trans Athletes in Women's Sports Might Be Even Worse Than You'd Expect

We've written extensively about the ridiculous hyperventilating in women's sports surrounding Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham refusing to back down from her stance on men playing in women's sports,

"I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I'm like, 'I never once said that,'" Cunningham said in a recent ESPN interview. "I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to go against biological men."

The backlash has gotten ugly, with some Cunningham fans being harassed at WNBA games for the crime of expressing their support, including two teenage girls who got yelled at by Celeste Keaton, the co-owner of the Seattle Storm, during a game against the Fever.

As we've also reported, some of the WNBA's coaches have been dragged into the debate, and not surprisingly, the ones who have been asked about the topic so far have given pretty predictable responses.

But the one that came from Golden State Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase pretty much took the cake:

"I think just in terms of how I'm seeing it is, if I can answer, for me sports is about belonging. It’s about inclusivity. It’s about allowing everyone to be their authentic self," Nakase said.
The coach then referenced her ethnicity. Nakase is a third-generation Japanese-American, she previously became the first Asian American to play in the National Women's Basketball League (NWBL).
"I’m big on that because I have been criticized for my height, for my ethnicity. I’ve been in those ‘you shouldn’t belong here,’ [moments] and for me I don’t want that space, especially Golden State, to ever feel like that. "I’m all about women, little girls deserving to play, and that includes trans women. So I’m all about inclusivity."

Yeah... no. Sports are not about "inclusivity." They are about finding the best, most skilled players you can for the job, and signing them on to your team, regardless of the color of their skin, regardless of whether or not they check off some box.

I'm a middle-aged woman who is a better spectator than player, and even if I identified as a superstar basketball player, that wouldn't make me worthy of being on a women's basketball team. You have to have the talent, the strength, the stamina, the drive to go the distance.

Sports are not about belonging. Competitive sports are about competing. And in competition that are rules, boundaries & some people are excluded. And in high level competition, lots of people are excluded because they aren't good enough.

Further, with very few exceptions, sports have typically been segregated between the sexes because men and women are made differently, have different strength levels, etc., which is why the "inclusivity" argument when it comes to "trans women" in women's sports really doesn't hold any water.

Look, these arguments are nothing new. They are the same ones we've heard for years. But the fact that it continues to be leftist women making them just confirms that the disconnect between fantasy and reality for these people remains very real, and it is literally hurting female athletes.

About the only way I can figure they'd finally see the light is if it was announced either that the WNBA was being disbanded and interested parties could try out in the NBA, or if it was announced that the WNBA was expanding to include any male participants who wanted to play against the women.
