Even before former congresswoman Abigail Spanberger was sworn in as the state's next governor, Virginia Democrats were already in full Lord of the Manor mode, with the House of Delegates and state senate voting to advance a constitutional amendment that, if approved by voters in April, would pave the way for them to redraw congressional maps to their advantage ahead of the 2026 midterms.
Democrat Delegates have been even busier beavers since then, introducing bills that, if passed and signed into law, would do things like end mandatory minimum sentences for certain violent felony offenses like rape and manslaughter, effectively nuke oversight of the very type of nonprofits that are at the center of fraud scandals in other states like Minnesota, and raise taxes.
Another rather interesting and telling bill introduced by a Democrat Delegate continues the theme Spanberger started when she ended cooperation with ICE on her very first day in office. Crafted by Del. Alfonso H. Lopez (D), the bill in question, HB 1442, seeks to prohibit federal immigration enforcement activity within 40 feet of polling places:
Summary As Introduced
Elections; polling places; prohibited activities; acts in furtherance of federal immigration laws. Prohibits any person from performing any act for the purpose or in furtherance of enforcement of federal immigration laws within 40 feet of any building, or part thereof, used as (i) a polling place, (ii) a meeting place for the local electoral board while the electoral board meets to ascertain the results of an election, or (iii) the place for a recount.
The full bill can be read here.
Republican Delegates are already responding accordingly:
“My Republican colleagues and I were shocked at the brazenness of this bill,” Virginia Del. Anne Ferrell Tata told The Daily Signal.
“First, states can’t restrict the actions of the federal government. But more importantly, what’s the purpose behind this bill? Democrats tell us illegal aliens aren’t voting. It’s quite a coincidence,” Tata continued.
I mean, truly, if illegal immigrants can't vote, why the supposed "need" for this bill? Hmm.
This reminds me of what then-Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli had to say after California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) made a damning admission of his own over the summer about illegal immigrants voting in U.S. elections.
For context, Newsom told Fox Los Angeles that the ICE agents who showed up outside of an event he held were a "preview" of what was to come at polling places and "in front of voting booths," and that ICE would be sent there by President Trump to "intimidate people."
Essayli zinged him in response:
The only people who should be concerned when they see a border patrol agent are illegal aliens. Why would they be at voting booths and polling places, Governor? https://t.co/RjQYpkG6CG

That's a question Delegate Lopez should be asked, too, even though we already know the answer.
Democrats are again showing us exactly who they are, and we should believe them.
Editor’s Note: Democrat politicians and their radical supporters will do everything they can to interfere with and threaten ICE agents enforcing our immigration laws.
