This Is What We're Dealing With

This is a story about who and what we're dealing with as a country.

Even though it's pretty predictable, Democrats never cease to amaze me in how they will admit to having more regard and compassion for the criminal elements in our society than the innocent people who are just trying to live their lives, and yet who at some point end up becoming victimized by the bad guys.

We've seen them do it with criminal illegal immigrants - and even violent offenders who are not illegals, with their central argument being one of "compassion," while ignoring that it is the actual victims who deserve compassion, sympathy, and justice.

So while we shouldn't be surprised at the number of Democrats now lining up to defend narco-terrorists against the Trump administration's campaign to destroy them, it nevertheless deserves to be called out and amplified, and must be a central message for the GOP headed into the 2026 midterms.

There are many examples of this, but we'll focus on two of the more recent ones.

In this clip, Democrat Rep. Adam Smith (WA-09), who is a co-sponsor of his colleague Pramila Jayapal's (WA-07) recently reintroduced detainee rights bill, gave an interview on MS NOW in which he declared with a straight face that the "people on a boat in the middle of the Caribbean carrying cocaine are not a direct threat to the lives of our service members or Americans.”

Watch:

As Seattle radio talk show host Jason Rantz pointed out in response, it was a pretty "astonishing statement" to make considering the facts on the ground in Smith's Congressional district:

It’s an astonishing statement for any member of Congress, but especially for a representative whose own county reported at least 822 confirmed drug-overdose deaths this year, according to Public Health–Seattle & King County. Those victims didn’t overdose on kale smoothies or oat milk lattes. The drugs pouring into the country—through smuggling routes run by violent narco-terrorists—killed them.

Even worse, during a back-and-forth with former Biden press secretary Jen Psaki this week, Democrat Rep. Jim Himes (CT-04), the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, seemed sympathetic to the narco-terrorists killed in the double tap strike, suggesting maybe a lack of "economic opportunities" back home drove them to be drug smugglers:

"I live in a political world, and a lot of folks, if you just tell them, you know, 'the president is killing narco-terrorists in the Caribbean,' reasonably enough, they'll say a lot of Americans die because of overdoses and, you know, they might say 'okay, I'm supportive of that.'"

"But what you need to do is you need to see two terrified men clinging to the wreckage of the ship, and this is not Pablo Escobar out there on a boat. These are guys that probably didn't have a lot of economic opportunity, made a terrible decision to participate in the drug trade."

I just don't know how much plainer this can be: Democrat elected officials in Congress, and not just one or two but many of them, are willing to go to bat for people who mean harm to children, mean harm to the elderly, mean harm to everyone, and they are saying it out loud. This is not a new thing, of course, but it's now being expressed in ways that leave no doubt.

They are gift-wrapping a powerfully effective message that can and should be used by GOP House and Senate candidates ahead of the 2026 midterms, and the best part about it is no spin needs to be attached to it: It's their own words.

This is who and what we're dealing with. And at the ballot box next year, the public needs to send a message that it won't be tolerated anymore.
