Watch: House Democrat Learns She Crossed the Wrong Dad During Field Hearing on Victims of Crime

As we've talked about before, the August murder of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on Charlotte's light rail system, allegedly at the hands of a violent repeat offender, has created a ripple effect at all levels of government amid President Trump's national crackdown on crime.

Republicans in the U.S. House and Senate, for instance, have introduced legislation dealing with, among other things, strengthening transit crime reporting and oversight.

And on Monday, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Oversight held a field hearing at a Charlotte courthouse to talk about victims of crime, to hear stories from their families, and to advocate for things that need to be done to prevent crime and to hold violent career criminals and their woke enablers to account.

The day didn't go so well, however, for Rep. Deborah Ross (D-NC), who, during opening remarks she gave at the hearing, managed to confuse the names and images of two of the victims whose stories were being told:

Before I get started, I also want to express my deepest, deepest condolences to the family of Iryna Zarutska. What happened to her is simply unimaginable and unconscionable. And I hope that we will take to heart her family's request not to remember her by her last moments, or politicize her death.

But instead to remember her as the vibrant and exceptionally kind person she was. And I am thrilled that we have a picture of her in that state right in front of us.

Except it wasn't Zarutska in the photo Ross was referencing. It was 22-year-old murder victim Logan Federico, a Waxhaw, NC native, who was killed in May while visiting friends in South Carolina.

Her father, Stephen, a witness who was sitting at the table behind where Federico's photo was placed, corrected Ross the first chance he got. Ross, in turn, apologized profusely:

Making matters worse for Ross was when it was Mr. Federico's turn to testify.

He gave an emotional, powerful speech, sharing some of the horrific details of Logan's final moments, pointing out that her alleged killer, 30-year-old Alexander Dickey, had been arrested nearly 40 times prior to allegedly murdering his daughter, who Mr. Federico said wanted to be a teacher:

Mr. Federico addressed the panel and told politicians, "When I tell you this story, think about your kids." He continued with brutal testimony about what happened to Logan, "Drag her out of bed, naked, forced on her knees with her hands over her head, begging for her life. Begging for her hero, her father. Me! I couldn't be there."

His testimony continued, "She was 5'3," she weighed 115 pounds. BANG! Dead. Gone. Why? Because Alexander Devante Dickey, who was arrested 39 godd***ed times, 25 felonies, was on the street. How about that? How good are we doing for our families? How good are you doing for your kids? He should've been in jail for over 140 years for all the crimes he committed. You know how much time he spent in prison? A little over 600 days in ten years. He's only 30 years old. He was committing 2.65 a year since he was 15 years old. But nobody could figure out that he couldn't be rehabilitated. Well, you'd have to put him in prison to see if he could be rehabilitated."

At one point, Mr. Federico again addressed Ross and made sure she knew his daughter's name.

"Her name's Logan Federico, not Iryna," Federico said as he pointed to Logan's picture while looking at Ross. "And you will not forget her. I promise you," he indicated to Ross and others in the subcommittee.

"You will be sick and tired of my face and my voice until this gets fixed. I will fight to my last breath for my daughter," Mr. Federico vowed.

He also told them that they needed to "stop protecting the people" who took innocent victims like his daughter from us.

Watch (language warning and viewer discretion advised, as he talks about what happened to Logan):

I think that about said it all.

Editor's Note: President Trump isn't going to allow lawlessness to reign in America. We will not have a repeat of 2020's "Summer of Love."
