As we've reported, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is a man on a mission.
Not only has he been determined to strengthen the DOT in part by undoing the wrongs of prior administrations, but he's also been steadfast in reminding people just how bad of a transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg actually was for the four years he served under then-President Joe Biden.
He's done this, of course, in the context of defending the Trump administration's efforts to make the DOT great again from attacks by Buttigieg and others on the left. But there also appears to be an ulterior motive: to effectively hamstring a potential Buttigieg 2028 presidential campaign before it even gets started, as the failed 2020 Democrat presidential candidate seemingly continues to test the waters.

Naturally, because Duffy is good at what he does - and because he's a proud family man and proponent of large families - the New York Times is out with a conveniently timed hit piece on Buttigieg's fiercest critic, boiling down Duffy's extensive life accomplishments to that of the reality show participant he once was and essentially suggesting his nine children are props for him and his wife, Fox and Friends Weekend co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy:
Nothing demonstrates the plight of unhappy liberal women quite like this article trying to scandalize Sean Duffy for… *checks notes* settling down and having a big family pic.twitter.com/ag7q7sbJAZ

Their oldest child, Evita Duffy-Alfonso, also revealed that one of the questions the Times "bombarded" the Duffy family with was whether they thought about aborting their first child - her:
The NYT just published a hit piece on my family, accusing my dad of using us as political props for his career. The writer, Caroline Kitchener, is an abortion reporter who now claims to be a “family” journalist. But it’s clear she hates family, given how much the size of ours disturbs her. One of the deranged questions she bombarded my parents with was if they considered aborting their first child — me. The truth is simple: we’re not a prop, a brand, or some act. We’re a real, loving, faithful, joyful family — and @CAKitchener is bitter and a creep.

Her tweet was retweeted by Mrs. Duffy.
Sean Duffy himself has also responded accordingly to the hit piece, sharing more on the questions they wanted the Duffys to answer:
With all the serious issues facing our country, the New York Times decided to dispatch a former abortion correspondent (cosplaying now as a “family” expert) for a hit piece on me and the Trump administration.
NYT reporter @CAKitchener is genuinely disturbed that I’m happily married, have nine kids, and—brace yourself—didn’t abort any of them. Among the hard-hitting questions she harassed my team with: did I consider aborting one of my daughters, what color plaid my siblings and I wore as children, whether I drive a minivan, and bizarre fact-checks on an old reality show. Pulitzer stuff, truly.
Let the NYT goof off. I’m laser focused on making transportation great again—modernizing air traffic control, rebuilding bridges, and reviving U.S. commercial shipping through a reinvigorated Merchant Marine Academy. While they obsess over my beautiful family, I’m working for yours.

This is the same New York Times, of course, that had little to nothing to say about "devoted grandfather" Joe Biden ignoring his seventh grandchild, Navy Joan Roberts, until their columnist, Maureen Dowd, finally put the Bidens on blast in July 2023.
All of that said, in the aftermath of the "MTV Reality Star in Trump’s Cabinet Who Wants You to Have More Kids" article, we look forward to a future "Willie Brown's Ex Mulls California Gubernatorial Run" write-up on former Vice President Kamala Harris.
