WATCH: Hurt Feelings Erupt After Scott Jennings Reminds CNN Panel Who Hunter Biden Really Is

Every once in a while an important story comes along that we as political writers struggle to put into words in ways that do such stories the justice they deserve.

The case surrounding Hunter Biden and his four-year-old daughter, Navy Roberts, and the despicable nature of how he and his powerful family have approached handling – and acknowledging – her existence is one of those stories for me.

Leaving to the side how Joe Biden has conveniently done a 180 in how he’ll refer to his granddaughter going forward, just looking at how Hunter Biden alone has treated the child that was born in 2018 after a brief dalliance he had with her mother, Arkansas native Lunden Roberts, is all I need to know to judge his character, regardless of everything else evil (and it’s a long list) that Hunter Biden has done in his life.

Among other things related to Navy Roberts, Hunter Biden:

– Initially refused to take responsibility for her by denying she was his.
– Has reportedly never visited Navy Roberts, and has said he has no memory of the “encounter” he had with Lunden Roberts.
– Lived the high life while pretending to be a starving artist who couldn’t afford child support.
– Did not want Navy Roberts to have the Biden name, and got Lunden Roberts to agree to it.
– Ghosted Lunden Roberts while she was pregnant and “made sure she was booted off [his consulting firm’s] insurance plan months after she gave birth.”

These are things that pretty much everyone should be able to acknowledge are unquestionably beyond the pale, but during a segment on CNN’s “State of the Union” broadcast Sunday, hurt feelings erupted when Republican political strategist Scott Jennings pointed out what in my opinion is the truth about who Hunter Biden really is.

It started when Democrat operative Michael LaRosa, a former press secretary for First Lady Jill Biden, blamed Republicans for “weaponizing” the issue of Joe Biden’s failure to acknowledge he had another grandchild.

Jennings wasn’t having any of it, and went off – which caused hurt feelings for some on the CNN panel which included LaRosa, far left political commentator Karen Finney, former Mike Pence chief of staff Marc Short, and anchor Kasie Hunt, the latter of who predictably tried (and failed) to run interference on behalf of the Bidens:

Hunt: But, Scott Jennings, the president has made being a family man a central part of his political identity.
Jennings Yes. It’s not Republicans, with all due respect, who made Hunter Biden into a complete scumbag on this and other issues. The ignoring his own daughter for four years, and the president of the United States hanging up a stocking for the dog, and not for his seventh grandchild…

Hunt: OK, look, we can also have sympathy for people who are struggling with addiction. Let’s keep this conversation respectful.
Finney: Right.
Jennings: Right. Listen, I totally agree. And where I’m from, a lot of families deal with addiction. And you know who ends up picking up the pieces? The grandparents. And, in this case, the grandparents would not acknowledge this little girl. It is offensive. But the bottom line is, the poll…
Hunt: But they have now.
Jennings: Oh, what a hero. The polling must have been brutal. The polling must have been brutal.
