Ted Cruz Absolutely Levels Chuck Schumer During Must-Watch Victory Lap Speech on S.1 Failure

Now that the so-called “For the People” act is dead thanks to the filibuster, Democrats are predictably throwing tantrums while Republicans are lining up to take a well-deserved victory lap over its defeat.

Perhaps no other GOP Senator was more cutting in his remarks towards Democrats than Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who took to the floor of the U.S. Senate Tuesday night and proceeded to straight-up blister Democrats, in particular, Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) not just over them trying to pull off a massive power grab, but also over what he called “the most pernicious aspect” of the bill: “the racial demagoguery that it has invited.”

“We’ve heard the Senate Majority Leader invoke in booming terms specters from our sorry history of racial discrimination in the past,” Cruz stated, pointing out that “the Senate Majority Leader has used the phrase ‘Jim Crow 2.0’ repeatedly, as has the President of the United States, as has the Vice President of the United States.” All of this was done, Cruz said, for the purposes of “deliberately inflaming racial tensions, suggesting that laws, commonsense voter integrity laws in states like Georgia and Texas, things like requiring voter ID or requiring signature verification on absentee ballots are somehow a modern manifestation of Jim Crow.”

Calling the ‘Jim Crow 2.0’ characterization a “grotesque lie,” Cruz suggested that Schumer, Biden, Harris, and other Democrats who have used the racially-loaded term “know they’re lying. But ironically, they’ve inadvertently said something that is accurate about this piece of legislation.”

Reflecting on the Jim Crow era, Cruz noted that “Jim Crow legislation was grotesque and ugly” before lowering the boom on Democrats, reminding them as to the specifics of who passed the legislation, why it was passed, and how the “For the People” act – which Cruz described as the “Corrupt Politicians” act, was a modern-day version of it – also written by Democrats and also designed to keep them in power.

Jim Crow laws were the type of “legislation that was drafted without exception by Democratic politicians,” Cruz correctly pointed out. “Jim Crow was written by Democratic politicians, and its purpose, when the Jim Crow laws were written were to prevent the voters from ever voting out of office Democratic politicians.”

“Thankfully,” Cruz observed, “we repudiated Jim Crow.”

That repudiation included the repudiation of its current manifestation, Cruz went on to say.

“The Majority Leader used the phrase ‘Jim Crow 2.0,’ and inadvertently he’s right, but not about what he’s describing. He’s right about the ‘Corrupt Politicians’ act. The ‘Corrupt Politicians’ act follows the exact same pattern that Jim Crow did. It is partisan legislation written by elected Democrats, designed to keep elected Democrats in office and to steal the right to vote from the citizenry to decide on somebody else.”

Watch Cruz go off on Schumer and Co. below:

Schumer, on the other hand, was throwing hissy fits yesterday, as my colleague Mike Miller reported earlier, which was music to the ears of many Republicans. Any day when Schumer has a meltdown and Cruz dunks all over him for his leadership failures is a very good day indeed.
