The situation unfolding in Congress regarding Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District is a case study in the shameless hypocrisy of the Democratic party on the issue of respecting the results of an election.
As we’ve previously reported, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is 100% on board with a supposed House Administration Committee “review” of the election results in the district which saw Republican nominee Mariannette Miller-Meeks defeat the Democratic nominee Rita Hart by six votes.
Because the election was so close, there was a recount. Miller-Meeks was certified in the state as the winner of the race, but Hart was weighing her options in the meantime. In the aftermath, instead of taking her fight to the courts, Hart chose to take it through Democrat-controlled House channels where presumably she thought she’d have better luck, and here we are.
Pelosi was interviewed last week by former Clintonista and current Democratic hack George Stephanopoulos of ABC News, and she was asked about the race and why House Democrats under her leadership chose to take up Hart’s case even though the election had already been certified. Pelosi cited the fact that only six votes separated the two candidates and said Hart exercised her right to start this process and that they were proceeding accordingly.
Fast forward a week and the heat is being turned up on Pelosi as more in the media are taking notice and more Republican leaders in the House and Senate are firing back at the House Speaker for her double standards on waging challenges to election results two months after they impeached Trump, in part, for doing that very thing:
New: Dems defend review of IA race with certified GOP winner, with Lofgren saying she wants it done soon and Ds rejecting comparisons to Trump. “We can’t be concerned about optics,” per Butterfield. Ernst tells us it puts lone D in delegation “in jeopardy” https://t.co/WcHBucaLXn

Grassley: “They were complaining because Republicans wouldn’t tell people that Biden won the election on November 4, the day after the election, and now they’re playing this game.”
Ernst: “Where is Cindy Axne saying, ‘This is an outrage and the Iowa voters have spoken?’ “

CNN also noted things were starting to get uncomfortable for other Democrats who don’t want to be seen as duplicitous on the issue:
Some Dem uneasiness in the ranks. “I want to see what compelling reasons there are for the feds to get involved in this,” Lou Correa said. “I think these are issues that right now are probably best left at the state level.”

Such a vote could be particularly tricky for Democrats like Rep. Jared Golden, who told us that he did not have a problem with the House Administration actions so far.
“My instinct is that on these types of things, it’s always best to count every vote, look under every stone.”— Manu Raju (@mkraju) March 18, 2021
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell also gave a speech on the Senate floor Thursday, ripping Pelosi to shreds and accusing her of trying to kick out a seated member of the House in what is a clear attempt at a power grab:
McConnell, on the floor, now railing on House review of the Iowa race. “Speaker Pelosi and Washington Democrats have set out to overturn the results right here in Congress. … Democratic leadership is trying to use brute political power to kick her out.”

Let us not mince words about what Pelosi and her House Democratic cohorts are trying to do:
This election was counted.
It was re-counted.
It was certified by the State of Iowa.
Now House Democrats are trying to steal it, in broad daylight. Shockingly brazen. https://t.co/9lyEZDyebz

Meanwhile, on the other side of the aisle, the lack of self-awareness is off the charts here:
Every Iowan deserves to have their voice heard in our elections – without the threat of violence. We’ve seen where the GOP’s dangerous rhetoric leads. This process needs to play out in accordance with the law to ensure that every vote is counted. #IA02 https://t.co/Pqv5LPIINJ

Republicans are using the best tool they have at their disposal right now (the microphone and social media) to publicly shame Pelosi, Hart and all the rest of the bad actors on the left for what they’re trying to do to Miller-Meeks. It remains to be seen, however, as to if it’s enough to stop their attempted theft of a House seat. We’ll keep you posted.
