Goya Foods CEO Robert Unanue had the audacity to praise President Trump Thursday, saying “We’re all truly blessed … to have a leader like President Trump, who is a builder” during an event announcing a “Hispanic Prosperity Initiative” that will, according to the White House, “improve Hispanic Americans’ access to educational and economic opportunities.”
For this, Unanue received notice by Democrat politicians and liberal celebrities alike that they were on the march to cancel him and his company after nearly 85 years of service to the Hispanic community.
One of the virtue-signaling politicos who added her name to the boycott list was Squad leader and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) who after noting she was “Googling ‘how to make your own Adobo'” in response to Unanue’s remarks, took a moment to give her hot take on cancel culture, claiming it came from a place of “entitlement” and that in reality did not exist:
The term “cancel culture” comes from entitlement – as though the person complaining has the right to a large, captive audience,& one is a victim if people choose to tune them out.
Odds are you’re not actually cancelled, you’re just being challenged, held accountable, or unliked.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) July 10, 2020
Many of the people actually “cancelled” are those long denied a fair hearing of their ideas to begin w/:
Palestinian human rights advocates
Abolitionists
Anticapitalists
Anti-imperialistsNot spicy “contrarians” who want to play devils advocate w/ your basic rights in the NYT

Of course, it’s very easy for her to say cancel culture doesn’t exist because she could say the dumbest and most outrageous things and get away with it because her party and the mainstream media give her a pass every single time.
But beyond that, it’s clear that on this issue – like so many others – AOC simply just does not get it:
Except it's more than just showing people the door. Lacking any sense of proportionality, cancel culture thrives on causing as much damage as possible to the target no matter the original sin. pic.twitter.com/jnOZXRFJlS

You're threatening a person's livelihood by threatening their employer with bad press if they do nothing about it. You're weaponizing fear which is evil.

I guess you are not in favor of a pluralistic society. You want diversity only as far as you can use it as an means to your end of totalitarian government. Pretty sad, actually.

Did you donate 300,000 pounds of food to organizations, food banks, and soup kitchens in NY and other places to help with COVID-19?
Goya did.

You want your right to an opinion respected but you can't respect anyone elses. Apparently you loved the product until they had an opinion different than yours. The product didn't change – It's still great – but sadly your concern for the people changes if they disagree with you.

Yep.
What AOC is inadvertently doing here is trying to hurt her community on a massive scale simply because Orange Man Bad. Her words and actions speak volumes on this issue, and none of it good.
Then again this is AOC we’re talking about here, so that she’s acting like a complete dum dum should surprise absolutely no one.
