My RedState colleague Bonchie wrote this morning about an eye-opening interview Joe Biden did with New York radio show host Charlamagne Tha God earlier today where the presumptive 2020 Democtratic nominee for president actually told Charlamagne, who is black, that “if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”
The video clips that originally circulated were between 8 and 10 seconds long. But the longer version actually makes Biden look much worse and even more condescending and incoherent:
About 20 minutes into the interview, an aide to Biden can be heard trying to wrap up, saying, “Thank you so much. That’s really our time. I apologize.”
“You can’t do that to black media!” Charlamagne replied, smiling.
“I do that to white media and black media because my wife has to go on at 6 o’clock,” Biden responds, apparently referring to an interview that Dr. Jill Biden had to film from the same basement studio. “Uh oh. I’m in trouble,” Biden adds, looking at his watch.
“Listen, you’ve got to come see us when you come to New York, VP Biden,” Charlamagne says. “It’s a long way until November. We’ve got more questions.”
“You’ve got more questions? Well I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black,” Biden quips, before smiling broadly.
“It don’t have nothing to do with Trump, it has to do with the fact – I want something for my community,” Charlemagne replies.
“Take a look at my record, man,” exclaims Biden “I extended the Voting Rights Act 25 years. I have a record that’s second to none. The NAACP has endorsed me every time I’ve run. Take a look at the record. Anyway, thanks, I will come back.”
Listen to/watch the fuller clip below, where you can hear Biden actually yelling towards the end:

Even some in the media acknowledged how bad the interview was for Biden:
This morning should end once and for all the question of which party is more eager to get Biden out of his basement.

Of course, that doesn’t change the fact that Biden will still get treated much differently and much more gently by the mainstream media than a Republican who said this would have been:
If any Republican running in any meaningless state race said “You’re not black if you have trouble figuring out if you should vote for me or my opponent” to an African American, it would be front page Wash Post and leading Morning Joe & CNN’s all day coverage.

In fact, Biden senior advisor Symone Sanders is already laying the groundwork for how the media and left-wing commentators should frame the story of Joe Biden’s ugly patronizing of the black community in future tweets, news write-ups, and cable news network segments in an effort to try and make Biden look good in all this:
This is what the media were waiting for. They'll finally comment now with a rash of "Joe Biden jokes" and "Republicans pounce on Biden mistake" headlines. https://t.co/Jc3jyRNrLP

My hope is that the Trump campaign uses Biden’s words in a future campaign ad:
Privileged Joe Biden telling black voters "they ain't black" if they don't vote Democrat – I hope they Trump campaign puts that in a campaign ad lolol.

What’s really going to be interesting is watching the backflips VP hopefuls Sen. Kamala Harris and failed 2018 Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams will likely do in an effort to paint this whole episode as a gigantic nothingburger. I mean, they both have already sold out women – how will they spin Biden’s insulting remarks about black voters?
Stay tuned.
