New Emerson Poll Shows Trump on Solid Ground, Provides More Warning Signs for Democrats

As I’ve said before, even though there’s still a long time to go between now and November, it’s pretty remarkable that President Trump is in such good political shape considering the constant barrage of attacks he’s faced from Democrats, Never Trumpers, and their media allies since day one.

It’s a point that even Trump’s detractors have reluctantly admitted in recent weeks. No matter what gets thrown at him, including impeachment, he’s still firmly in the fight and shows no signs of letting up.

As further proof, a new poll just released from Emerson College shows him at 48% approval and 44% disapproval. What’s notable about these numbers is not the 48% approval number but instead the 44% disapproval number. According to Emerson, “his disapproval numbers are lower now than they’ve ever been before” in their polls:

President Trump’s job performance rating of +4 points is the highest it has been since he took office. This month’s poll finds him at 48% approval and 44% disapproval, up from last month’s 47% approval and 48% disapproval. Emerson College Polling found Trump at 48% approval in December 2019, November 2019, and February 2017 as well but his disapproval numbers are lower now than they’ve ever been before. It also appears that there is no appetite within the GOP for a different nominee, as 91% said they would vote for Trump for the nomination in 2020.

This is pretty amazing when you consider the disapproval numbers actually dropped in the midst of the House’s impeachment inquiry and eventual impeachment of Trump in December.

Not only that, but in Emerson’s national poll of head to head match ups, Trump is currently beating all but one – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT):

To be sure, those head to head numbers are all within the margin of error, with the exception of the Biden numbers. But again, for Trump to be posting such solid numbers and to actually be besting all but one of the remaining Democratic presidential candidates just two months after he was impeached and 3 years after the onslaught of attacks started against him from Democrats and Never Trumpers is very impressive. It also shows that Democrats have their work cut out for them if they want to have any chance at all of winning in the fall.

In the meantime, the Las Vegas Democratic presidential debate is tonight at 9pm Eastern time. Should be another “fun” one (ahem). Here’s how to watch. Also, make sure to tune in for live commentary from me, my RedState colleagues, and your fellow RS commenters!
